I am thinking of building a dynalo but wanted some info as how it synergizes with grados. I have some 225's and would love it if this would be the amp that ends my search.

Sorry for posting this. I found plenty of threads that have helped. Thanks.

You have a gilmore in your signature. You hvae one even though you didn't like it. I don't know I am going to get discouraged about this amp with threads like that. Especially, if I have to go through so much to build it(matching etc..).

headphonejunkie,

I know you're planning to build your own amp, and I think you'll find the Gilmore is a great design. I'm not sure if this is appropriate to posted in this thread, especially since you're going to DIY, so delete if necessary. It seems those who don't like the Gilmore Lite (or any amp by any manufacturer) will speak much louder than those who do. 97 out of 100 Gilmore Lites that I ship are kept, and 3 are returned to me. Considering there have to be some who just wanted to try the amp, I think that's almost complete satisfaction among those who own the amp.

I think its just a taste preference. It was too cold for me and didnt really match that well with the 225s then with my LD2+. But its all IYO. Best thing is to build it and if you dont like it, sell it! It'll fetch a decent price

headphonejunkie, although you've already found lots of information by now, the title of your thread makes it a moral imperative for someone here - me, I guess - to link to the original article in which the Gilmore dynamic amplifier circuit now known as the Dynalo was presented.

In brief, this circuit was designed specifically with Grados in mind. To quote from the article: Quote:

Grado headphones, for me, are terribly uncomfortable, but my amp sure makes them sound nice. (The ones in the picture are the SR225; I also have a pair of HP-1.) They are the only low impedance headphones out there that I know of. Most if not all of the standard opamp-only headphone amps have trouble driving Grados with any decent bass, because they want a high current output. This amplifier can output up to 0.5W into a 32-ohm load

Now, opinions may of course differ as to how well the amp really does drive Grados, but you can see for yourself that its creator had them firmly in mind when designing it.

Hi Justin!

I suspect that I WILL be among the 97%!

I also suspect that the RS-1 pictured in the photos in your HeadAmp web-site is your own personal RS-1. That's cool if it is!

Now, if you could include some new shots using your HD600 sitting on an amp, that would be even cooler yet!

....yeah; I like my MS2i and HD600 equally!
