I've been listening to music through my 2009 HeadRoom Portable Desktop Amp for quite a while now. It has always sounded good to me, but I have not really compared it to anything other than my Dragonfly 1.2. I recently upgraded my primary cans to a TH-900mk2 and I'm thinking its maybe time to upgrade the dac/amp.
At the time, this was the best portabl-ish setup I could afford and it was pretty up there in price from what I see nowadays. All this stuff changes crazy fast and I need someone to be straight with me and be like, "hey, that setup is still great" or "the $200 flavor of the week is better". I found the manual and it has no tech specs and HeadRoom can't find their data either. It is old enough that I don't really get any decent search hits (other than a super old review).
I have my eye on the Schiit Modi Multibit / Magni 2 Uber stack but the DAC doesnt support alot of the "cooler" stuff that even less expensive dac/amp combos have. I like the footprint of the Schiit stack as well.
I really like the balanced JOTUNHEIM except I feel like I'm boxing myself in with USB as my only digital in. Right now my pc soundcard can simultaneously spit out analog to my pc speakers and optical to my dac so I never need to swap stuff around - I wouldn't be able to do this with the Jotunheim. It is also a bit bigger.
I just dont know how either of these compare to what I already have.
