I've ordered a pair of Sennheiser HD 580's from www.superfi.co.uk for £95

Anyway, is there a 'best' way to gently wear in decent headphones?

Congratulations on your purcahse! I'm sure you'll be very happy with your 580's

My 600's went through EXTENSIVE changes for several days. Right out of the box they were.. weird.. to say the least. I'd suggest starting out with some low volume music for at least and hour or two. After that slowly increasing the volume. By the end of the day they should be ready to rock. From this point on I think just getting the drivers moving as much as possible (very bass heavy music at high volumes, without clipping of course) seemed to speed up the "break-in" process dramatically: one hour of this did as much good as a whole day of "average" listening during my first couple days of break-in!

As for non-driver break-in, IF you find the "clamping action" of your 580's irritating, bend the headband outwards (fairly strongly) repeatedly and eventually they'll start to ease up. Also keep them spread out whenever you're not using them (to a width slightly larger than your head). After a week or two of this, my 600's have become 10x more comfortable than straight out of the box, to me. However, keep in mind that lots of people enjoy the clamping action, so just test 'em out first.

Huh, that was my first option also. Second was "What kind of clothes you wear with headphones?" My bad english, I suppose.
