So People & Audiophiles,

What songs/albums do You get out when breaking in a new pair of headphones/speakers? Which songs/albums do you take with you to the store to test out a pair of headphones...???

Do you go for a song with heavy bass? What song and by whom?... like Chemical Brothers - Bass Test or do you take out your favorite classical LP/CD and enjoy the sounds of the organs playing.

If all goes well, this can get pretty interesting as well as informative.

can't tell you about which pipe organ cd to break them in with, but i can tell you what cds to take to a store to audition headphones with - the music you like the best, the cds that you have heard a hundred times before - the stuff you love. after all, isn't it the same type of music that you will be listening to, mostly, after you pay for them?

Good Question, I would like to know too. I got the ER-4P and wasn't too astounded by their overall sound and was thinking of giving them a chance. How should I go about breaking them in? Thanks.

I use bass test tracks such as techmaster peb and thx tests.

I love them TXH Bass test. The song called I Love Big Speakers has some really good tunes, techno like. Really nice. My second choice in testing speakers and headphones has to be Atomic Dance Explosion Bass Test, and thirdy I like to use a song called 3 Bass Test all of which I found on Shareaza by just typing in Bass Test.

Keep the recomendations comming.

that track is crazy

just for bass i would use either woofer cooker or Techmaster PEB's bassgasm
for breaking phones, i plan on just queueing up ~40 hours of fast dance music on my PC and just letting it loop, then a 20-20000 sweep for a few hours.

Woofer cooker, is a little extream, I wouldn't recomend for headphones. Unless all you want to hear is pure bass, and not too loud, might mess up ur phones/speakers. They are for serious subwoofer testing.

I download the songs I found on Gnutella (Shareaza), you can also try Kazaa. I'm sure if you go to your local WhereHouse or Sam Goody music store you'll find Audio and/or Bass Test CDs. I plan on buying a cd or two.

I have always used an early ninties Columbia Jazz demo done by Sony for equipment auditions. Track ten on Christian McBride's "Getting to It'' also works very well.

The first track of Radiohead's "OK Computer" is pretty good for breaking in some new components. That's one I use a lot.

I also use that track to check out the bass performance on components. Pretty much every speaker/headphone I've heard plays the opening bass lines different.
