How do you tell when a headphone is producing a neutral sound?

    You can't have any idea of what the artist/producer/engineer intended if you're not listening to a similar system. But, you can appreciate the result better (or should I say, in a more conscious way), when listening to a linear/flat/neutral pair of full range speakers in an acoustically treated room.
