Got a good trick to share? Especially when you meet a group of people.

I don't. I just say "hey you" and somesuch. On the other hand, I'm notoriously bad with names, so folks seem to take it in stride.

I don't use a person's name in conversation until I know him or her very well. If I use your name when I talk to you, be flattered, because it means I like you. If I don't, it means I don't care about you one way or another and I don't feel like taking the risk of getting your name wrong and looking like an idiot. I met my brother's girlfriend a couple weeks ago and I used her name after knowing her for only a few days. She had no idea, but that was a big deal.

Of course, people warm up to you faster if you call them by their names, so unfortunately most people don't like me.

If you tell me your name right now, I will have forgotten it before I finish typing this post, even if I make a specific and concerted effort to remember.

Please, if people have any tips, it would be much appreciated. This is a bad thing at parties.

It's so darn embarassing... Surprisingly, anatomy doesn't seem to be a problem. I can remember the names of dead stuff

EDIT: BTW, if I remember your name, it doesn't mean you're dead too.

When I first started at my current job there were three Kellys, two Michelles, two Sues, two Matts and two Mikes out of about 20 people. Needless to say I didn't use anyone's name for about three months. To make matters worse there was a Michelle who looked exactly like a Nicole I had previously worked with and there was a Nicole who looked exactly like one of the Kellys.

I dont do anything special. I've always been pretty good with faces and names.

I always used to carry an analog notebook at work that needed no batteries, and when I'd talk to somebody who I wasn't familiar with I'd invariably instantly forget their name but would just as invariably need to write something down in my notebook about our conversation, and I would pick that time to sneak a peek at their badge and add their name to my notes.

I don't work now....I can't remember a damn thing about names.

Here's how I do it - when I'm introduced to someone I say "Hi [name], how are you?" and I never forget their name after doing that.

Lol, I guess I'm not alone at being atrociously bad with names.

I really need some tips though. Have an internship coming where I need to remember a lot of names as quickly as possible. Probably a lot of Chinese names, too, which really sucks.

I've always admired politicians for remembering names so well.
