how do you organize your cd's/records?

Mine is first divided into type (i.e. album, mix cd, copy etc.) then it is divided into genre and then by either alphabet (for albums) or by how much I like them (for mix cds and other types).

Confusing... yes... but for some reason it works for me and I can always find the CD I want. Of course my collection is still (relatively) small.

Mine are all mixed up and I tend to like it best that way. I often find myself cruising thru the titles for 10-15 minutes, waiting for an impulse from inside to make me choose specific album or two and enjoy the music in the next couple of hours.

I also have at least five in-heavy-rotation Cds always laying next to the player and I`m refershing this selection every couple of days.

Other. In order of favoritism, the most I like it, the most accesible. Try to have one artist discs together but in no particular order. Spanish and English in different places too.

I have them alpha. But, a long time ago (when my collection was only around 150 discs) I transfered to binders and the cases ended up getting lost in a move. Now I have over 500 cd's and it is a pain to constantly re-organize them.

By last name, beyond me why anyone would split it up by genre.

Just like you'd find in a CD store - alphabetically within genre. With 2200+ CD's, I discovered that I have to have a system if I hope to find anything that's in the archives. Even so, it's sometimes difficult to put my hands on a CD I'm looking for. Some CD's are just hard to categorize.

However I do keep a pile of ~100 newer aquisitions in random stacks near my gear. Because once they get filed into the archives, the likelihood of them getting into the CD player again decreases dramatically. This is my way of forcing myself to listen to everything I buy at least once before it gets banished to the dungeons of the archives.

On the rack: genre to label to performer [or composer] ([alphabetically and] chronologically).

On the computer, where I keep all my PCM music, alphabetically by last name.

i go by alphabetical order in real life and have things split by album, singles, special editions.

On computer, I have them divided my genre then alphabetical.

Yeah, what about different genres in the same disc, do you cut the disc in pieces?

All ripped to my hard drive and organized neatly.

Then the discs are just thrown into a case and rarely ever get touched again.

They're more for show than anything now.
