So what's the trick to getting a good seal with the Etys? I have had the 4S for about a month now and I don't think I'm getting a good seal...Isolation isn't as good as it's supposed to be (I think). I've tried the insertion method listed in the manual where you pull your ear up and out and do that. It works to some degree but I still don't think I'm getting a very good seal.

So what's your secret and how do you know if you've got a good seal or not?

If licking is nasty, then get yourself some alcohol swabs (sold near the diabetic supplies). Wet your fingers with the swab, then use the pre-wetted fingers to moisten the white tips. Finally, insert the Etys at an upwards angle.

I carry a small non aerosol bottle ofl alcohol in my bag. I spray my fingers then wet the tips. Pulling on the top of your ear while you insert them with the other hand works for some people as well.

You might give the foamies a try. I found that for me, it was easier to get a good seal with them. You simply scrunch them down, pull your ear back, insert, and then wait a few seconds for them to expand back.

I've tried the foamies before. In my experience, they made my ER-4S sound somewhat grainy compared to what the same pair of ER-4S did with the white tips.

When I called the Ety company with this question, their rep said that their motto is "lick them and stick them". When I mentioned a concern regarding infection, he said not to worry. Now that I've done this for a while, the seal is great, and absolutely no problem with infection. Happy Licking.

On a previous thread on the subject, someone recommended DEBROX (a liquid earwax removal aid available in most Pharmacies) as a lubricant. i found this to do great job in lubricating the sillicone tips and acheaving a good seal. also it would alleviate any sanitary concerns you might have.

How I get a good seal:

Roll the foam tip into a tight cylinder
Pull down and back on my earlobe
Slide tip into ear canal at about a 45 degree angle upward as far as the angled connector will allow
Let tip expand and enjoy the sensation of the noisy world melting away
Listen to the music!

No slobber required

while it is much easier to get a good seal with foamies, imho the sound from the foamies doensnt bring out the best from the ety's. i find it a bit muffled.
