how do you guys find ways to audition all the gear you are interested in. i see alot of posts that say things like "just listen to both and keep the one you like the sound of better".

do you try to find places with good return policies like headroom or do you just resell your unwanted equipment at a small cost(the price of auditioning).

do you try to track down people who own the models you are after or try to get your hands on them at meets?

ive found the one meet ive been to to be far from a perfect listening environment. i would personally only trust what i hear after a long session in the comfort and quiet of my own home.

so, how do you do it?

Unless you're friends with someone in a large city hi-fi store, this is really the only way to try new equipment. Plus, as you say, everything will sound different with your own setup.
