How do the Edifier e25 Luna Eclipse compare to Audionengine A2s?

My Audioengine A2s have served me well for years now but I'm getting the audio wanderlust and it might be time to try something new. I was wondering how they compare to the Edifier e25 Luna Eclipse? I was taking a look at them in a local shop and there is no deigning the design is stunning, could not demo them though. How do they measure to my current speakers?

Thanks.

I haven't heard of them but I had the A2s b4. The edifier looks like a downgrade to me.

Thanks. Shame I have to admit they are a beautiful looking pair of speakers. What actually would be an upgrade from the A2s thats around the same size? I was thinking a pair of Q Acoustic 7000i's and a USB DAC/Amp, though that would be quite a bit of money.

I wouldn't immediately assume they're a downgrade from the A2. The A2's bass response issues are due to the port tuning trying to squeeze as much as they can out of the tiny drivers, so there's a possibility that the passive radiators in the E25 might be able to boost the upper bass without getting as flabby.

If anything can be a cause for concern in the E25 vs the A2, being "passive" only refers to those bass drivers not being hooked up to the amp, and since they're still operating mechanically, that's another point of failure.

A fair bit bigger (but still considerably smaller than the A5 and other 5in speakers) and you can get the Swans D1010-IVB (BT version). There's also the M100MkII.

Really depends on pricing, I think they`re pretty similar in performance just with different sound signatures. The Audioengines are flatter of course, the Edifier`s being more of an entertainment speaker have a slight mid-bass boost, a little extra bass extension and are more v-shaped in general. The Edifier`s have no volume compensation and no active bass drivers (dual radiators instead), and can sound thin at low volumes. The a2`s should sound better at low volumes due to the active low-end drivers.

Quality is similar with perhaps a slight advantage going to the Audioengines. I owned the E25`s for around 2 years and have tested the Audioengines a few times before so I`m not going to decide a victor per say, they`re pretty close anyway so it`ll come down to personal preference and availability, you can`t go wrong with either.

If you`re looking to pay RRP for the Luna Eclipses, have a look at the Edifier Spinnaker`s. They were previously a higher model (hence e30 vs e25) but have since been price cut to the same price as they`re a little older. Despite this, I think they`re a better speaker than the Luna Eclipse. Feel free to ask me any questions about the Edifiers, I own both models but probably can`t say too much about the Audioengines.

Thanks. The lack of thump really is my only problem with my A2. Unfortunately I'm operating under space restrictions, I can't add a sub without sticking it into a corner next to my router and on the speaker end I can accommodated deeper and I can accommodate taller but I can't go much wider. I have about an inch of comfortable play, maybe two if I give up on toeing them in.

Part of the issue is the Q Acoustic 3010s I have downstairs. Of the speakers I've owned they are by far my favourite. Tremendous clarity and ample bass but there is a resonant sweetness to the 3010s I just love. Like many things audio its hard to explain in words but it is very evident on string instruments. The A2 are still great but they can't help sounding flat in comparison and I do spend far more time most days sitting at a computer than I do in the sitting room.

My local Tesco has these on sale at half price (€99). I'm very tempted. Between them an the A2 which would you say is closest in sound signature to the Q Acoustics 3010s?

Honestly can't go too wrong with either, the Edifiers notably have a more pronounced treble response and mid bass is a little punchier. If the Edifiers are half price then they're really a no brainer.

Thanks. Another slightly different question, what would you recommend as a starting point for EQing the A2s when they are connected to a sub? Bring down 125 and 250 on my sound cards 10 band EQ to take care of that midbass hump?

I would probably just change the crossover point on the sub itself, the sub shouldn't go higher than 100Hz anyway.

Well I was surprised this morning with a pair of e25s so thats this question answered! Haven't had time to have a good critical listen yet but god damn they are swift. Bass starts and stops on a dime, also if you put a gun to my head I would swear some kind of room correction was going on. One thing is for sure they have made everything I've tried on them so far sound amazing.
