How did you know when you reached your endgame?

I sometimes wonder what would be if there wasn't Head-Fi (or alike), would I still be endlessly pursuing an end game, or buy once, be satisfied for many years?
Pretty sure it's the latter

One thing's for sure: HF keeps that fire going :L3000:

Hard for me to say endgame. I have been more than convinced a multitude of times that I had something I would never sell….did you notice the word HAD?!

That's how it goes, everything 'unsellable' at first eventually leaves to make room for something else, and the only difference is in time, I think.

1. When you spend more $ on music than gear/gadgets.
2. When you start worrying about longevity of your current gear.
3. When fellow audiophiles try to sell you on the latest and greatest and you are like… “ I am good, thanks”.

1. If that ever happens to me, streaming Services make that really affordable nowadays🤔
2. I considered that during my gear choice. Longevity and out of warranty Service, as well as ease of pad and headband swaps. Pretty confident in my choices, having the same gear in a decade would be a possibility (if it were not for head-fi and #3)
3. I either get hyped a lot from new releases like Audeze CRBN or feel like my stuff is enough (Abyss closed back which should come soon for instance leaves me quite cold.
Guess I'm "not quite there yet" but closing in...

Not really. I doubt all of us spend couple grand per year on music collection.
And that's a problem. But, ok, go on, listen to Hotel California for the umpteenth MEH.

"How did you know when you reached your endgame?"
You just simply KNOW!
You sit down to listen & there are no thoughts of is that tube crackling,I wonder how bias is doing bla bla blab bla...You simply melt into whatever performance is qued up.Equipment doesn't exist, flaws are natural & accepted, time spent researching & agonizing over that next upgrade is replaced with exploring new music, the merry go round is gone, replaced with a rollercoaster of thrills..

If only it was this easy :D

On a more serious note, noticing that end of the road really is difficult.
No,actually it's not,you & those like you make it so..End game is no different than a lifelong love/marriage.It IS what you make it.If you choose to believe the grass is greener just a tiny bit farther over the hill you will always be chasing something that you can never achieve.
Accept what is.Appreciate & be thankful for what you have & GIVE UP THE ILLUSION of PERFECTION!

I knew I had arrived at my "Endgame", when the sound became so lifelike it felt like I was in the room or space where the music was actually happening, and I felt like I was part of the band. Another way of describing it is the headphones seemingly disappear and the sound fills the entire room as if I was there. Once I had arrived at this point, I had stopped thinking about bass, mids, treble, soundstage, tubes, etc. . .and I all could think about was how right (lifelike) it sounded. This is the sound I have been chasing for the last several years, and after multiple upgrades to all components, I have finally arrived.

My endgame setup -

iMac 27" (Roon) > Sonnet Hermes > Sonnet Morpheus > ZMF Pendant SE and Rogoue RH-5 > ZMF Verite Closed

I have upgraded all cables and have tube rolled like crazy to get the system above dialed in to perfection.

Of course there is better gear out there, however as someone that does not make a bunch of money, this is the end of the road for me and I am totally fine with that. I even have several sets of backups of my favorite tubes to ensure I can maintain this level of sound for hopefully many more years to come.

It's all about the music nowadays, and sharing info about the tubes I am using with others. :o2smile:
