Seeing as how my new Grado SR-60s have "grattle," I'm curious as to how common this is. I read about 150 reviews on audioreview.com, no one mentioned grattle there. Now...can anyone give me a feel as to how common this defect is in Grado products? You can imagine how my "grattle" isn't leaving a good first impression...

you sure its not just hair that got stuck, which may be hard to blow out?

I'm not really sure, but it's been there for as long as I can remember, so I'm assuming they came that way. I tried the blowing thing, and blowing as hard as I could, got no results.

It popped up in my pair of SR-60 after about 3 years. It hung around for a while (probably a year), but last time I checked it seemed to have disappeared as suddenly as it came. I guess the design of these phone makes it easy for something to get stuck.

My sr60s have the grattle thing in the left earcup at times. Just play your headphones for about an hour pretty loud and it goes away. Or, at least it did for me.

Good luck!

Hajime, I tried that. Played music really loud for about two hours...no improvement. And Gobd, "grattle" is a rattling sound in Grado headphones, usually brought on by bass.

I seriously doubt that it is anything other than stray hair that causes 'grattle'....

with the SR125, 325 and now the RS1 I haven't adjusted my listening habits, and still listen on the louder side of safe, and not one of them have been affected...

...you'd have thought that if it were driver defect that I'd be more likely than most to suffer

I still don't understand why people blow like mad into the driver housing... if truth be known that is more likely to damage the actual driver itself than the hair (or other foreign body) that is stuck on the driver...

look on the white fabric closely, and see if you can see any hairs there, and if you can, grab a pair of tweezers, and pull it out...

This could be the case, Duncan. I have a lot of hair and sideburns to heck.

The sr325's have never rattled like that (but I haven't had them as long). The sr60's are what I wear more often when I'm walking around, so they'd be more likely to get a stray hair in the driver. Ah well.

Well, here's the situation as it stands. I removed any suspicious hairs from the pads and the white fabric. I switched the right and left pads. I noticed a slight improvement in gratle, but it's still definitely there. Any other suggestions?
