How comfortable are the RP-21s?

Doesn't really need the amping at 32 ohms, but the comfort sucks - long-listening sessions will entail pain. However: phenomenal sound for cost!

The Audio-Technica ATH-A500 or ATH-A700 are about as comfortable as they come, closed, not to pricey, and sound great, but they're about as bulky as they come.

The earcups of the RP-21 are great for me, a little clamp-like at first, but they loosen up a lot with usage. The think that kills me is the headband - it's just not comfortable for more than a few hours. I don't do enough extended listening sessions for it to bother me much, but if I were to use them in long stretches more often I'd consider modifying the headband somehow. Sound is amazing, but comfort does leave some to be desired.

The comfort does get alot better through usage, I was complaining all the time at first, but now it's quite normal, and I can assume they'll get yet better before settling.

I just got my first amp, the Porta Corda MKIII, and despite many people claiming it was less responsive to amping, and was very forgiving, I already love the sound even more. Of course, higher grade phones, such as my old ATH-AD900s, sound understandable better, and I can barely wait to amp my Audio-Technicas coming in a few weeks.

x2 to everything said. After a week or so, clamping goes away and they're very comfortable. I had no problems with comfort AT ALL! These were very comfy IMO. Also, you can change the ear pads for different beyer pads for added comfort

Do you have a link to those? And anybody else have suggestions?

I'd go with it, using it for at least two weeks before deciding whether you want to get Beyer pads or not. From what I've heard, the pads change the sound, some believe it makes the bass to muddled and boomy, while others believe it opens the soundstage up.
