how can I use headphones with speakers are being plugged in?

(without removing the speakers jack of course)
 
I might be asking my question but I just want to make sure. Will the  desktop read the headphone and and the speakers at the same time and can i disable the desktop speakers? and I would be using audio splitter correct?

Is it difficult to plug and unplug? 
 
If you're using a splitter from your desktop 3.5 socket you won't be able to control them separately. The soundcard will be sending a one way signal, not returning anything. The only option is: turning off/on or mutting the speakers while using headphones.
