Ever met a real, true to life wuss before?

No you have not - I redefine what this word means and here is why
rolleyes.gif

* I decided to watch a movie tonight
* Went down to blockbuster and took a wrong turn into the horror section
* Decided not to "faint" before the surveillance cameras, took a deep breath, let out a few ounces of sweat and picked up "THE RING"
eek.gif

* Also picked up "BEAN - THE MOVIE" to balance the effects of the horror
* Walked out looking real macho
rolleyes.gif

* Came home, setup my 5.1 Klipsch Promedia speakers to a healthy dB level, turned off all the lights and....
* inserted the DVD, started WinDVD and hit PLAY
* I made it as far as 10 minutes into the movie where the girl climbs up the stairs and sees water flowing out from under the door
* Closed WinDVD, shut off my speakers, closed my door, turned all the lights back on and dived under the covers on my bed
* I removed the DVD, put it away and inserted the Bean DVD
* It was better...but I didnt laugh through the entire movie...

* I just checked my pants in case I had had an "accident" - everything seems fine
* I dont think I can sleep tonight...and I have a HeadFi meet this weekend

It's only the after-thoughts that provoke me into being rather afraid. I seem to come up with some wicked ideas that would be wrong to talk about on here.

I will say that although I wasn't scared during the movie, I kept asking my friend questions about it (since he had seen it previously), and this was at his house at 3 in the morning. ...While I was up in his room trying to go to sleep I kept thinking about the movie, that wasn't the bad part though, he has a black outer-cloak/kimono thing or whatever on his wall, and it looks freaky at night.

Oh, while on the subject, I was in english class one time and we were discussing it. My teacher said that he had rented it and was watching it downstairs as his daughter was upstairs "sleeping". Anyway, a while through the movie (while he was anxious), his daughter came down and talked to him or something like that, and it scared him so much...anyway

Yeah I am alone...

the worst thing is - I turned it off and went into the kitchen to get a drink and just as I was passing the air conditioner...the compressor turned on and scared the crap outta me

Dude, you consider The Ring to be horror? Methinks no. I imagine you could watch a horror movie without problem; they've usually got little to not plot, extremely predictable freak-out scenes, and lots of gore. For instance, Wrong Turn, with Eliza Dushku. That's the only reason I saw that movie, and it's the only reason worth doing so. The movie was crap.

The Ring, OTOH, is a suspense movie, through and through. 'Tis based on the Japanese movie Ringu, FYI.

If you want not so much to be freaked out (well, perhaps...), but see an awesome drama/suspense, I suggest Pi, by Darron Aronofsky. That link actually goes to a two-pack that includes Requiem For A Dream, which I've heard is also quite good (by the same director). Anyway, Pi is B&W, very high contrast and gritty, and very well done. Highly recommended.

If the first 10 minutes bothered you, you did a good thing stopping it there. It only gets worse. Ultimately it didn't make sense to me, but it was one seriously creepy movie.

OTOH The best horror movie (some would call it suspense) to me is the old Clint Eastwood movie, "Play Misty for Me." This had me going for weeks afterward. The main reason is that it is something that could actually happen, and has happened to some people.

IMO it was more of an American remake than being based off of the orignal. Now there's "The Grudge" which is a remake off of the Japanese movie "Ju-On"

The movie that I found the scariest is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I saw that alone one night and I stayed up the rest of the night until I fell asleep in my computer chair.

Guru you ain't seen nothing yet, those first 10 minutes are tense, but The Ring gets orders of magnitude scarier later on. First time I saw it in the theater, honestly at one point I felt a hole in my stomach like I had never felt since I watched The Exorcist being a little kid. However, despite that it's one of my favorites scary movies of all time. I watched it 2 times in the theaters, and then got it on DVD and have watched it couple of times with friends. You should try to watch it some time. But if you had trouble up to the water under the door, then better don't watch it alone indeed

I disagree though, Pi is a movie I didn't like much. There is apoint that is plain annoying (telephone ringing), I was so not enjoying the movie, plus that ringing I wanted to turn the dvd player off. But there were friends watching it with me, so I had to endure till the end. That's a movie I wouldn't recommend much.

People who think I am kidding - I am not - I am seriously freaked out right now - this was a bad idea and I am glad I did not try to implant oversized cojones just to prove to myself that I am what I am NOT

Hilarious.
I love horror movies and sometimes afterward regret having watched particularly well done ones.

I am a certified horror movie freak, i turn off the lights, put the dvd in the drive, and crank my headphone amp volume up. These horror movies are best heard on headphones !

I get a certain kick out of getting scared seeing these kind of movies. Makes me satisfied.
I have watched at least 20-30 movies this way. And ones that i felt really creepy were.

1. A nightmare on elm street- part 1
2. The ring
3. Ju-on : the grudge
4. The texas chainsaw massacre
5. Joe d'amato's - Buio Omega
6. Rosemary's Baby
7. The sixth sense.

I am going to hunt down and kill the moron who told me that "THE RING" was so bad at horror that it was almost a comedy!!
mad.gif

Now I find that almost everyone rates it pretty high up in the scare scale!!
eek.gif

man...I am jumping at every creak/woosh I hear...

At least I dont have a basement
eggosmile.gif
I would die just looking at that door after watching a horror movie...I would faint under normal conditions after watching a comedy
