Well, I only use IEMs, and will be the Westone 3. I have read a lot of Hornet Tomahawk threads and most of you in my case would get a Tomahawk. But here are 3 reasons why I am leaning towards Hornet instead:

1) From the reviews by Skylab, the Hornet has more bass than TH. I like bass.

2) The hornets dimension is almost exactly the same with my DAP - the meizu miniplayer. I think this flush look would be VERY nice. Since miniplayer is so thin, i would imagine it just looks like a screen on top of the hornet!

3) Most of my usage will be at work with my IEMs on. So I would like a plug into wall option. Hornet offers me that. yes, even though TH lasts as reported 500 hours.... hence this is listed as my #3.

So with these 3 reasons, is it a right decision for me to purchase Hornet over Tomahawk?

cool. thanks guys.... already emailed Ray about the hornet!

Actually I dont know if i should thank you guys or not... I mean, I just was aimlessly browsing through the forums reading stuff about amps these past few weeks, and then its always been these hornet tomahawk threads lately. Then I figured, no matter what type of portable amp I upgrade, or even if I just stick with pa2v2, i will always wonder how a hornet will sound. So what the heck, Hornet it is (after hard approval from the wife of course).

Really. This forum is worse than drugs. No joke.

Having had both and done extensive testing I can tell you that the bass difference just about disapears after the Tomahawk reaches 800 hours of burn in. Yes the Hornet still has a bit more but it is so small as not to make a difference. OICDN listened to my Tomahawk which has well over 800 hours and really liked its punchiness.

I have both and I have been actively testing both (among others) for a week.

The sound differences to me are only obvious when the two amps are next to each other and you're doing testing. The Hornet has a better sound, but you're not talking major differences.

The ability to run off of AC power is huge to me though. The #1 driver for a TH IMO is size. If size is not an issue, get the Hornet.

Give 24-48 hours. If your amps were as good or as popular as his, how long would you take to get to an email? More than a week...... Off with his head!LOL

I have talked to him twice now (Ray) and he got back to me both times within 8 to 16 hours.. He is very very curteous, and very polite.

Ken from ALO is also extremely quick to reply to questions, and extremely easy to talk to about stuff.

Here's why I went with Hornet and not Tomahawk:
1. I can plug it into the wall.
2. 3 gain settings.
3. Lots of colors.

If I had to do a lot of travelling (i.e. to places with 220v or if I didn't want to pack a wall adapter), I'd definitely go Tomahawk. For my uses, the Hornet fits the bill best.
