Here are some pictures I took today at the Hong Kong High End AV Show. This is the first AV show I ever attend. I have come to realize any serious audition of any equipment is impossible, cell phone ringing, people talking, walking around etc ... Though I was quite impress with the Quad II-forty with the ESL.

There's nothing really special about this show. Got a chance to see the new Arcam line up, the new Sony SACD player XA3000-ES and some not-so-often seen European equipments like Westlake, Exposure.

As for software, there are tons of CD/SACD for sale though, at really good price. Sony is giving a good push at SACD. All attendee with stub can get all SACD for 1/2 off, including rare japanese releases, at their off-site showroom. That's where I am going tomorrow

(If anyone is hunting for some rare Sony SACD, lemme know if I can help). Also, spot a good record label, MA Recordings. They make some high quality world music.

I just got some MA Recordings cds from Elusive Disk a week or so. They are fantastic cds if you like the kind of world music they like to produce with some excellent production qualities.
Especially good is the Calamus-The Splendor of Al-Andalus, which apparently was a Stereophile Record to Die For. When I first listened to it I was, wow, couldn't stop listening to it (rarely happens). The recording is fantastic and I really like the Middle-Eastern exotic melodies.
Interestinlgy enough, in their detailed production notes, they monitor their recordings through Stax headphones.

So they've found a dealer in Hong Kong? great! Their earlier jazz recordings are absolutely to die for -- check out Bruce Stark, especially the classically styled, ensemble music on To the Winter Sun

Actually, they don't have any dealer in Hong Kong. Just a special apperance in the show. The producer (he is also the photographer, engineer etc.), Todd Garfinkle is there, promoting his albums. I got a chance to audition to a variety of their albums through the Stax signature he bought along. Though there are too much ambient noise for me to fully enjoy his music and the Stax. I bought his newest recording Sera una Noche recorded in Argentina. I can only buy so much with limited cash, but their recording is absolutely amazing.

The show sound fun, if I am in HK this summer, I will go there!!!! Do you find any headphone related stuff in the show?

As for headphone related stuff, I spotted two sets of Stax Signatures. The Cayin HA-1A was on sale at the show for ~USD$350 w/ Zu interconnect. Didn't see anything from ASL, Radii. That's about it, kinda disappointing.
