I haven't watched a movie yet, but I've enjoyed listening to music and I've absolutely loved Battlefield 2.

These are my first HiFi headphones, and they are super comfortable through about 10 rounds of Battlefield 2, and 3 hours of music while working.

There may be other headphones to start out with, but these seem to be very versatile to me. And, with an earlier post saying they get better after burn-in, it looks like I'll have even something better a bit down the road!

You're really in for a treat. They improve in every single way.

The DT-770/80 was my first purchase after discovering Head-Fi. Though I have an HF-1 now, which I feel is a superior can in many respects, I still find myself turning to the DT-770's as a very fun can to watch movies, play games, and of course, listen to music with. I can't wait until I convert it over to the dark side through Larry's great mods and unlock their true potential.

Like a1rocketpilot, I have the DT770/80 and HF-1, and find them to be a great combo to own. My main can is the HF-1, but sometimes you just want fun car subwoofer bass, and the DT770 has them, and then some.

Isolation matters to me, I thought the A500 would isolate sound well but, it doesn't. I hear the HD280 is one of the best in this department. How does the DT770PRO rank in the isolation department. Also is the quality noticable over the A500?

So far I know there are 4 models
DT770s = 250ohm
DT700Pro/250 = 250ohm
DT770Pro/80 = 80ohm
DT770M = 80ohm

the DT700M is for drummer of some sort.

I'm sorry. I didn't hear you. Let me take my DT 770s off...

Seriously, though. They isolate pretty well.

The box says "Ambient noise isolation approx. 18dBA"

Don't know exactly what that means, but I'm guessing it is a measure of blocking out outside noise.

That's pretty good! IEMs are said to isolate about 20-25dBA.

If you're serious about cans and want to spend good money for audiophile performance, sure, look ahead to those other cans.

But I also agree, at $150-ish it's a great value and performer, esp. if you need a closed can. I'd put the 770 with the A900 and SR-225 as great starter cans.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure whether or not I should jump straight to the the likes of the HD 650 and K701. What do you guys think? Should I upgrade slowly or just go straight to the real Hi-Fi stuff?

If it helps... you'll certainly appreciate your 650 even more after hearing how good the DT770 can be.

Anyone know what the ATH-A500's ambient noise isolation is rated at? How about sound quality difference, is it a worthy upgrade??

they isolate about 15dB... people have ranked the isolation at about 6-8/10 which is fairly decent...

not sure about the upgrade as i have no idea how the two would compare

but if your happy with your a500's why not just keep them

DT770s isolate better than any AT can i've tried. Especially when even a whisper of music starts - you're in your own lil world then. And the best part is that it doesn't leak - my wife never ever complained about my tunes when i had the darth beyers on.

I see... but I can only buy one can, so I'll have to make a choice between them...

Well, if you want a can for soley at home (movies, music, games) the HD650 would be my choice.

If you want a can that can do those things AND can go outside / isolate you on a plane etc, the DT 770-80 is better. It won't be as good at home, but it's more versatile.

The Manufacture site allows you to choose between 80, 250, and 600 ohm -- and I believe those are all non-Pro versions.

EDIT: I meant 32, not 80.
