I'm looking to get an album that contains Separate Ways by Journey, but there are just so many that I don't know which one to get. I do know that with some modern music, there's the whole loudness war thing going, so I'm weary of that. So, with that in mind and how sometimes music gets compressed when it doesn't need to, which album do you guys recommend I get for the highest-quality version of the song?

Thanks!

The mastering on Journey's Greatest Hits is very good (1988 CK 44493). The remastering was done by Bob Ludwig in 1988 before the Loudness Wars started. There is one on eBay right now.

There may be other versions that are better. YMMV.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

Email the seller and ask him/her to verify that it is the 1988 release --- just tell them you are confused over the details (1996) and the title (1988) in the item. The feedback for this person is good so I don't think you will get stiffed.

Cheers.

I'm glad Im not the only one here who likes Steve Perry. Journey has always been kind of a guilty pleasure to me. The chicks dig it though....or thats what I HEAR anyways.
