Hi! I'm looking to get a pair of new IEMs around the price range of W40, Se535, Earsonics SM64. Was wondering what you guys think it's a better option for the price range of $500 +/-, universal or custom IEMs?

If you go the custom route, The 1964 Ears 1964V3 would be awesome. $449 plus impressions, shipping, etc...

If you don't care about sharing (or resale) that would be a great way to go.

Can I ask what you like about the V3? The idea of a custom iem is nice, but the thought of having to go to an audiologist and the wait is such a pain lol!

I have not heard the V3 myself, but I have owned customs and loved the fit and uniform sound. If you read Joker's IEM comparison and the V3 review in particular - I don't think you could go wrong if your budget hovers around $500.00.

Customs are a commitment - with a universal, if you don't like the sound signature, you can resell for a small loss - customs you take a bigger hit...

But the potential for bliss is higher IMHO.
