I've been wondering quite a bit about whether there are sound differences between low and high gain beyond volume level. I encountered a thread on this forum where multiple people claimed that high gain made their music sound fuller, with volume level accounted for most likely. Other times I've read that low gain actually improves sound quality. I'm flipping between low and high gain on my Magni 3 with an HE-400i and one of the things I'm perhaps noticing is that high gain acts kind of like bass boost. The bass seems more prominent than at low gain at comparable volumes. I had auditioned some headphones, including a 400i, with a Questyle 600I and the Magni 3 kind of reminds me of that, almost sounds a little bit too full. Just flipped to high gain from low gain without adjusting the volume (smh) so at the moment don't want to continue comparing, but not knowing what's happening here is bugging me.
