Hello gentlemen,

I am looking for a super High quality portable 24/192 kHz Async USB dac/headphone amp To use When I travel with my MacBook Air, my tablet PC or my Samsung galaxy S3. It Should be battery opérated when connected To my smartphone ...

I thought RaySamuel's New INTRUDER DAC/Amp was my solution untill I realised it was limited to 16 bits/48 kHz .., even from a PC/Mac.

So far i have only found the combo "Solo -dB DAC + Alo Rx Mk3 Amp". It is even balanced :) but... it seems that the Solo do not support my Android phone :)

->> are There Other super High quality portable 24/193 Async USB dac/headphone amp ?

Side question: Witch Amp sound best ? Raysamuel's Sr71b/INTRUDEr or the Alo Rx Mk3 ?

Tanks.

A relatively small desktop High-end DAC/amp that use an external power supply could be m'y solution : I will just havé to design à battery pack With TVA appropriate voltage outputs ?

That is a candidate indeed but Will it be of " desktop DAC " audiophile quality ?

I found this solution ( Red Wine Audio Audeze edition) which is battery operated, ballanced, tube based, but... it is quite expensive and support 24/192 only through Coax & optical ( USB is limited to 96 khz ??).

http://www.aloaudio.com/audeze-edition-headphone-system

- Is it worth the price ? Seems quite expensive ?

- I can of course use the optical out of my MacBook Pro in order to get 24/192, but... why the heck is the USB limited when the chip support 24/192 ?

- For a DAC, can an optical input offer the same quality than an USB ?  Or should rather use a USB-to-SPDIF converter ?

and more generaly: has someone owned it or heard it to provide me with feedback ?

thanks

" i thought the optical output of a MBP is limited to 24/96?  "

DAMNED I hope that this is not the case !   Can someone confirm ?

very likely Justin, toslink isnt limited to 96, but most optical RX still are. my i5 2011 mac mini is limited to 24/96, luckily my USB will do 32/384 in 4 channels =). only a select few optical parts will decode 24/192 and even then finding something that will accept it is the other half of the battle

It's a $5000 system consisting of a headphone as well and it's by no means "portable" - at least not by my definition.

I'm not sure how you find that relevant :p

OK OK Staal, you are right, in fact I mean "transportable" for a Week-End or ... under the patio.

For "real" transportable, I am investigating some sort of Intruder, SR71b, Rx Mk3 ...

ALO Audio PanAm + Passport. No doubt about it, the best portable amp for Audez'e LCD-2/-3. The built-in DAC is very good too. Not fantastic but good.

I'm however looking for the next level (after trying most "end game"-portable amps, The National, The Continental, The Pan Am, Triad Audio L3, VorzampDUO etc...) in transportable amps. I started a thread under Summit-Fi regarding this.

Another choice for you....

Fantastic DAC/Amp combo. You get about 7 hours of battery life. It charges via USB from the laptop.
