Again, another interesting comparison would be the EC studio JR and the Benchmark HPA4. Tubes vs SS at close to the same price point. From what I have read, there is nothing more transparent than the HPA4 with also enough power without the need for a speaker amp.

Okay, got a chance to listen to the Pass Labs X150.8 and the Benchmark AHB2 at @llamaluv's place. Comparing them with the Studio Jr driving the susvara, the major difference appears in bass and treble. The speaker amps are a little warmer, with more punchy bass, while the Studio Jr has less bass and more transparent treble. Overall the three amps are on the same level in my personal opinion. The preference over these three should depend on personal taste and the types of music being listened to. Also people could do some tube-rollings for their tastes. I am using the TAK300B right now.

Side note: llamaluv and I both agree the Studio Jr drives the Focal Utopia super nicely (although he thinks the Jr still lacks a little bass and lower-mids). For me, simply put, it's the best Utopia I have ever heard.

AHB2 versus HPA4.......that is the question.

Nice feedback to read. Seems to us that you're perfectly happy with that amp you own.

The WA33 is a brilliant amp an one of my favourites...it is brilliant with the Susvara headphones as well...plenty of power and drive. I love this tube amp!

In other news, I have a pair of Susvara coming in hopefully next week. I am a big fan of them and hearing them again at The Toronto Audio Fest last week had me finally bite the bullet and pick up a pair. I also think that they will be great for amplifier and DAC reviews as they are so revealing. :)

Good news and wise path to follow, please share your impressions once you have them!

Anyone try the susvara with woo audio wa 33?? How does this compare to a traditional amp?

I had the WA33 along with the Susvara for part of last year. I liked the pairing a fair amount, but didn't love it (even though I had eight-thousand reasons to convince myself otherwise). A decent solid state speaker amp opens up the Susvara significantly in comparison, at least in my opinion. Also though, I've drawn the conclusion that 2A3's don't quite do it for me regardless...

Have to agree with that. The WA33 on the Abyss was good, but I find that HP better on the Moon 600i or my Genus, quite a jump better. I detected some treble smearing and confusion on the WA33. I have Single ended DAC source so maybe an influence. And personal taste comes i to this. The Abyss lets you know for sure, it is so fast and revealing.

I thought the Abyss Phi CC had the best synergy with the WA33 out of all headphones I owned during that period (though I did give up on both). Very big, lively, dynamic, resolving... However, I have not heard his latest powered by a decent, higher-powered amp yet, though I will soon.

Funny, I came to the same conclusion until I started tube rolling. I was convinced my new 2a3 amp just wasn't up to snuff relative to my older 300b. Right before deciding to sell it, I test drove a pair of KR Audio valves. WOW! I've rolled tubes in my 300b and noticed timbre changes, but nothing like this.

Interesting. I'll PM you, if you don't mind. I have some 2A3 vs 300B type questions. :).
