Hifiman Sundara (HE400i upgraded, around $500)

never understood all the hype about hifiman headphones... they are built like toys, i had 560 and 400i.. 560 sounded thin and anemic, very airy but without any sort of impact, the 400 was like a broken hd650 (to me it's still the best headphone around 300 euros)

Different strokes. I had the hd650 for more than two years and they never gave the satisfaction that both the 400i and 560 have given me. My 650 had no impact; the 560 has a lot more.

I only listened to sundara for 10-20 minutes roughly and thought that they sounded pretty good. Smoother with better bass and retain all the HE400i sound quality. But, the build quality is really concerning to a point that, getting a pair of lcd2c is a better choice at that price range. The HE400i has better build quality IMO.
Interesting. I would have thought they'd have the same build, with an upgraded driver, considering the price. Are they trying to pull a fast one?

I hope that is not the case. The positive points on the build are they are light and comfort even better than HE400i. I am pretty sure it's durable with the (plastic if I am not mistaken) material.

It would be disappointing because HiFiman really improved the construction of their frames and those brittle, easy to break bails and rods that were on the HE5 and earlier models.

Well, I guess that's true. HiFiman build quality has really improved with their other model. I am more concerned on the introductory price with that build quality. I would expect it to be around $299-$349 but not at $499. Honestly, as compare to Susvara price, the Sundara at $499 looks relatively reasonable.

Probably we dont listen to the same music, to me afo has impact, lcdx has good impact... Not 560... Listening to everything except mids centric songs or classical was boring

It also depends on the amp used, that plays a big part in sound quality.

At this point I'm just looking for hifiman to make a fullsize headphone that sounds like RE400... At this point it seems like Aeon Opens are most similar ugh

Aeons are superb yes, but these are $200 cheaper from what I know... To a lot of people that's quite a bit of money. Let's wait and see what the sound is like before we judge the Sundara

According to a dealer, the $500 Hifiman Sundara will be available to dealers in mid-December.
I plan to get one and if I do, I’ll let you know how it compares to what I have (the 650, Fidelio X2, M1060, B&W P9 and Stax L700).
