HIFIMAN Releases New Flagship DAP "R2R2000"
Sep 22, 2019 at 11:57 AM Post #886 of 1,984
I m pleased to report that R2R2K can now be used as USB Dac with LPGT as source which was made possible since the latest fw update of LPGT. The result is great sounding but the EQ of the LPGT is very present. I am curious on this, can @TeamHiFiMAN explain to which extent r2r2K is using its DAC when in USB Dac function?

I’ll use mine several times a week and then take a 1-2 week break with it off, and the battery has gone down a little but is never dead. Have had the R2R2000 for almost a year now with no issues.

It’s been fantastic sounding too. I love the smaller compact size vs my HM-901 or my previous HM-801. Sound wise I like it the most, but they’re all good. I gave the HM-801 to a prominent head-fier who had his stolen a few years back - Fang told me back then that I should have kept it since it’s irreplaceable. But I think he would now agree that the R2R2K did in fact work as a suitable replacement.

I’m going to get to try it with the HD800s via 4.4mm jack this weekend. So looking forward to it. If it doesn’t drive them well, it certainly has no trouble driving my HE-1000SE, so no loss for me.

Also, has anyone tried playing music from Amarra Luxe into the R2r2k via USB on a Mac? Are people back to using iTunes on Mac, or sticking with Tidal and Amarra like I saw in previous years?

Thank you for your reply.

I also have Hm801 and I really like the sound of it. And since the sound of R2R2K is similar to HM801, that's why I bought R2R2K.

I don't know what HFM is going to do for its next DAP release now that arguably all the PCM1704 is used up (or has it?).

The word about shortage of PCM1704 has been around for years, we wouldn't worry too much about this!

I also have Hm801 and I really like the sound of it.

HM-801 was something cool years back indeed! Even today it is!

Just got my Red last night. Put on screen protector and case and it's ready to go now (minus the MicroSD which should be here today).

Using it with BT for now connected to my iPhone 11 Pro. Loving the sound quality of this little thing! I haven't updated to the newest firmware though.

I love the UI. Very old school :D

Even AudioGD stopped producing his PCM1704 dacs. How does hifiman get so much supply of authentic PCM1704?
As far as I know they bought the last remaining stock of those chips around the time when r2r2000 was in development. (Think it was in Dr Fang interview) they probably running short or will soon.
It would be sensible to assume r2r2000 is the last model using that dac from Hifiman unless the remaining stock was something like tens of thousands and i highly doubt it was more that 5k units
(That would be 2.5k of r2r2000's)
That would explain r2r2000 Red and the fact that there was not a one single sale for Black - but it is all only uninformed speculations hehe

Hifiman is a big company and audio-gd is just a garage manufacturer)))

What's your source? Can you back that one up?

As far as I know, both are not big companies.
I was just joking. You’re right they both are not big.
