Hello all! I'm trying to decide on the best Hifiman cans below $200, new or used. The highest priced model I've seen used are the HE560 V4, but we all know high price doesn't necessarily make them the best sounding. I've been looking at the HE400SE, the 400i, the 4XX, the HE X4, 5XX, etc. Any recommendations? Thanks much! :)

I would probably recommend saving about $50 more and picking up a used Hifiman Sundara. Ive never heard any of the other hifiman headphones you listed but I found the sundaras used for like $240.

I don't think that you can beat thr He560 below 200$

Sundara and Edition XS might sound better, but you probably won't find them within 200$ budget

If you find an original He500, go for that one (not the 5xx)

I have no idea, but did you check store.hifiman.com? Most of them are available for less than $200, even the HE560 is $229. Mostly open box but I heard the hifiman open boxes are usually new.

The only worthy HE-560 is the SMC one (exception is the proto), forget about the rest.

used HE-500 is a good recommendation but very hard to find for 200 Dollars.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions you've been, well, some help . I meant to come back and edit my original post to say I have the Sundaras and love them, but seeing I'd like to keep them in top condition I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to use maybe every other time or for not so great Youtube videos. So it looks like nobody really likes the 400 series? I saw a review that someone said the HE400SE sounds better than the Beyer DT770 and DT990. I was looking at those too but on the fence.

I liked the original He400, even tho it certainly lacks comfort.
All other 400 iterations like 400i, 400s etc are worse.

All of the 400 versions are noteably worse than Sundara imo

Beyerdynamic us excellent for those prefereing the brighter side

Personally I prefer the Hifiman offerings because Beyerdynamic is too bright for ny taste

Hmm, thanks much for the input, def something to think about. Lastly I've been hearing really good things about the Sennheiser HD560s, but I'm a little weary of the veil, (thoughts)? I wish I knew about them before I bought the HD599 however...
