Hifiman RE-800

Excellent review :) I tend to grab the RE2000 over the RE800 due to it's more emotional sound. But the RE800 is superb in its own way, especially in the clarity, detail and air departments :D

I'm also one to grab RE2000 more, I like the way they present overlapping in guitars with more emphasis on textures and how they add more emotion to violins and female voices, but indeed RE800 is still one of the best IEMs I've heard!

In spite of my complaints about the treble, the RE800 is truly one of the finest-sounding earphones I've come across.

Paul, I published the full review today if you want to read it: https://www.headfonia.com/review-hifiman-re800-balance/
I have to say I'm quite fond of them and I enjoy listening to these more than the RE2000 which also is great, but a bit bass heavy for my taste. I suppose you feel the same?

Nice review Lieven. You captured it pretty well. If I knock the single peak down, then yes really like the RE800 for my particular preferences. I love that mid-range, and like you, I don't mind the lighter bass. Unfortunately for me - even as a treble lover - I do find the 7 kHz gets a bit tizzy on cymbals if left stock though.

If you haven't tried it yet - you should see if you can get your hands on an Alclair Curve. Comparative graph below. Its flatter at 7 kHz if you use Comply - but I prefer the Shure Olives (thats the measurement shown on the graph), and it gives a little extra emphasis for cymbal clarity - without going over the top.

I think you'd really like them

I thought Re800 with non-removable cable is a DAed? I already seeing some reviewers posting pictures of mmcx version they received.

Most reviewers have the non removable cable version, AFAIK.

I'm not sure where and how the removable cable version appeared in reviews (?)

HiFiMan sent photos of what it would look like. I included that in my review - along with the comment:

Oh, that is good to know!

I've noticed some amateur photos of the new RE800 MMCX going around Facebook recently. That is what I was more curious about (?) ....

Those are not amateur photos, George. @audio123 posted pictures of RE800 w/mmcx review sample he received from HifiMAN, along with some of his early impressions.

Hi! Thanks for noticing my photos. Below is a picture for your reference so you will not be curious anymore. Cheers!

Me too, the black + gold color scheme feels quite sleek and elegant :smile_phones:

Well, you can probably keep the original one as a collectible item now , cause they are not selling it. But the final production version of RE800 looks cleaner:

What if the already cabled version goes very expensive due to their rarity? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Think ten years from now, everybody will want an original RE800!
