I am sure there will be other cards. And with the competition for amp cards for the 901, initiated by Hifiman, there should be some fun with new cards.
That is indeed something to look forward to!

I'm thinking about getting a 901 to mix things up from my dx90, whats the recommended amp card if I want a warm and lush kind of sound? I'm frankly tired of neutral sound sigs and just want smooth and inviting with warmth, I even thought about getting the hm-801 because its so well know for that.

Why don't you think of getting the 802? The 802 with the new classic card which comes standard is closest for the sig of the 801.

The 901's current stock card (aka Classic Card) is the warmest one of the bunch. It is supposed to be tuned to sound similar to the 801, while retaining the higher resolution/details provided by the dual full size ess9018. I find myself liking it a lot over the 801 which comparatively can sound a bit veiled.
If you are buying used, do ask seller to state clearly what amp card it comes with. I have seen many (intentionally) confused the old stock AD8397 card as the more expensive "IEM card" or the "classic card". There are also two version of the "classic card". Originally has more background noise/huss that can be picked up with more sensitive IEMs. Better to get the newer version. Try asking for photos and compare with the hifiman site.
Personally, with all these and the diy cards etc I still like the balanced card in balanced mode the best.

So many stock cards I'm confused, the hifiman website shows this one on the left, it it the latest?:
And another seller is showing the middle stock card:
and I read somewhere on this thread about the stock card on the right?
Which one is the current one?

I like the new firmware with a new interface. It is absolutely faster and more stable than the older one, even though it has some minor problems. Good job Hifiman.

You got it wrong. It's a very obvious difference aesthetically if you updated to the latest FW. Should also say 2.001 in settings.
If you need help updating you can drop me a PM with your number. I still have my SD card with the FW in it. Can meet you to update your 901. Will be in town tmr with the famous Kiats for dinner. Let me know. =]

anyone having the issue of some albums not appearing in the new firmware? also of the hm-901 suddenly restarting for nearly absolutely no reason at all (usually when looking for albums under the artist section to play music)?

I'm having a similar issue. The player reboots when browsing for albums under certain artists. I find I can successfully play the albums when browsing the SD card though. Likewise, browsing by Album works as well.

That's right, but this issue is not new. It's been like this since the release of the 901.
