HifiMan HE6 V2 Adorama

Personally, I think they (Hifiman and Adorama) probably lost tons of money on returns/stuck drivers so it would make sense they would kill it. I doubt there will be a successor, or if there is, it will stay closer to the MSRP.

Come on! Nothing Hifiman sells ever stays close to MSRP :wink:

You are right, the permanent price cuts on things like the r9 and Sundara show they like aggressive pricing but their flagship stuff doesn't usually have the drop like the He6se had. It is pretty unprecedented. It would be like a Susvara getting down to $1440 or a HE-1000v2 going below $500. The pricing of what the v1 has stayed at seems more likely option if they decide to keep the line going. All that being said, I bought my 6sev2 for $700 and I have no regrets.

FB is not going to leave a lively name/market like the HE-6.

Look at all the long time lines they maintain:

HE-400 (including the MD, its what 6 versions)
HE-560 (4 versions)
HE-500/5/5LE: several ersatz versions (the 5 SE, 5XX)

Even the newer long cups: Ananda(3), Arya (3), Sundara (3 ?)

HFM has put out 2 legendary cans (6 and Susvara), 3 more with a cult following: 500, 4, HEK v2/SE.

Even the more or less side story HEX, was reborn as the XS (3 versions total)

The 6 will be back. It may be listed as $1899, but it will start its life as a Adorama $799 or $899 starting point. 9 months later it will be $599, and perhaps less.

To resurrect the 6 as an actual player well above its price (more than now), do the following:

* fix the sticking membrane
* fix crap headband (how about something as good as the HEX v2 headband?)
* look into the research that says the distance from the rear of the driver to the rear cup edge using the traditional cup has the 1.8k mega dip - and coming up with a tapered shape that will mitigate and spread the dip to a much shallower affair?
* Also how about a hex back screen (more open space)
* nice cable - think Custom Cans style
* stealth

Think that's too much? The 6 is the headliner round cup HFM, if they want to get strong sales at $699-799 make those changes, let the reviewers grow the market, and rake in the sales. Chances that they see this as anything but a minimimal investment cash cow (named SE), and will do none of what I suggest (besides stealth - 40%. The other 60% bet is that will supply an even crappier headband, and do nothing else, but a minor tuning change, ad maybe stealth.

I am concerned about L/R imbalance issues that are sometimes difficult to detect without a measurement rig which is why I prefer to buy new for just in case.
Would you buy if you could use the manufacturer’s warranty, but you just couldn’t return it to the retailer?

The story shared above gave me chills and so I dont want to mess with used if new is an option at a reasonable price.

Ive only started recording L/R balance for headphones. I dont have much personal data but ime the few HFM Ive measured have great L/R balance. (HE6se attached, flat plate coupler)

I used to only measure Left-side out of convenience. Here are my L measurements for HFM 4XX. I wouldnt take the measurements too seriously as I bought each in various used conditions but seemingly in good shape. Also possible human error needs to be considered but all measures were indeed averaged from multiple positionings upon coupler. (4XX 2021, 2022, 2023 - Left only attached, EARS)

edit: fyi EARS vs FPC are not comparable. Different coupler interactions (one has silicone ears) and compensations.

edit2: Ive actually had four 4XX but dont have measurements of one because it had some driver issue (some distortion on one side, dont know cause but did basic troubleshooting) so returned.
Thanks, I'll take a look! :beerchug:

What headband mods are easy to replace the stock one? It's just getting worse and worse. It just rests on one small point at the top of my head and its really getting annoying!!
Easiest way is the Dekoni Nuggets. Works great for me and has for quite a while.

Nuggets good idea, I sit in a recliner a bit reclined, so that takes pressure off, also i usually have the headband well back or forward to seat my ear where the sweet spot is, and rarely in the middle. I do like the v1 headband pretty well, the v2 headband is ummm.. crappy.
