Slam has a lot to do with rise time and perhaps overshoot.

The only can that's ever forced my eyes shut on transients is the HE-6 6 screw - many times in maybe 40 hours. Using a Rag 1 and Bryston with the Gumby and basic CD's 16/144.

The tone out of a LCD-4 is deeper and richer but the leading edge is not as stark. The 1266 Phi is the closest and the most impressive of all cans I've heard - but 4 hours on some killer equipment and no eye shut.

I can't count stuff like the LCD-2 wooden cup pre fazor. Increasing bass from 50-200 Hz obscures the slam IMO and the leading edge is not comparable to the top cans I mentioned. I think all HE-6 versions beat the pants off the LCD-2 of any vintage. LCD-3 had better bass but the upper mid dip and mid treble and up dip puts way too much an amusical personality on the sound. Although never heard one EQ'd and I have no doubt it would help.

Be careful what you wish for. I definitely wouldn't want to be the one who pays to keep the gas tank full
That falls into the category of "good problems to have"

If you can afford the car, you can afford the gas...

Still getting to know this headphone. Last night I was watching "No Country for Old Men" with this on, and holy cow, I'd never heard gunshots sound so crisp and immediate. This headphone is lightning fast on transients.

For fun, here's a few shots of the various grille options.

Arctic Cables:

My own 3d printed one (did a crap job printing, but it was a nice learning experience and I like how they look):

eBay ones are definitely the most open, just from a materials POV. Mine are least open. I honestly haven't listened critically to them back-to-back to see if there's any noticeable difference in the sound. At a certain point, I'm mostly just looking at aesthetics for the aftermarket grille options.

I ended up with the Arctic Cable one, without the fabric from the stock. However I have two cats in my home, and I think eventually I will do something.

@DeweyCH Thanks for the pics. What is the headband? And what do you have against dust protection?
Headband is an early-gen ZMF headband I got secondhand, over on AVexchange on Reddit I think. Absolutely hated the original headband, gave me a terrible hotspot on top of my head, and while Dekoni Nuggets worked well for comfort, they looked kinda goofy. I don't have anything against dust protection right now, but I'm probably going to stick some thin speaker cloth on the inside of whichever I decide to use going forward. Or all of them... got a ton of that stuff and it's pretty cheap anyways.

I actually ordered the Dekoni nugs with my HE6 because I've used them before on other headphones and been very happy with them. But then I tried the HE6 on, and it's at full extension just to fit on my head. Adding the nugs would add too much thickness to the headband and the headphone wouldn't fit me anymore. So I have to find a different solution.

I can't recommend it, but I saw a pic in another thread which was microfiber rag with two zip ties. Too ghetto for me :p

I had a similar issue. I could get them on with the Nugs, but they were extended as far as they could possibly go.
