Better bass on the 500, with the classic Hifiman bass heft (Hifiman doesn't put out hefty bass anymore), but it may be too warm sounding for people. Sundara is clearer sounding, but the timbre may not come off as great at the 500. Also, Sundara can get shouty on the upper-mids on certain tracks. I have the HE-6 and it's a step up since it doesn't sound so thick like the 500. Much clearer sounding with one of the best Hifiman imaging. Mind you that this imaging probably depends on the right setup, given I'm seeing various opinions on Hifiman models. Some headphone setups you can make better distinctions among the Hifiman models.
I can confirm that with my Hifiman HE 400i 2020 it sounds horrible on my Fiio K3 @ 120mW into 32 ohm, but with my Fiio K5 Pro it sounds glorious @ 1.5W into 32ohm. So the modern Hifiman's still needs a lot of juice to be properly drived

My answer will be the same, regardless of Tidal's plans: Qobuz. I liked it the best when I tested Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon HD Music. No MQA follies with Qobuz, either.

I’m gonna have to try/buy a 400i 2020 one of these daysSup guys. So after listening for a few days to my Sennheiser HD 560s and my Hifiman HE 400i 2020 version, I might have to return my Sennies
The 400i 2016 I have was severely rolled off on the bass at stock configuration; I had to apply a few mods to get it to sound good to my ears.
I plugged it to various systems in my home hoping that some current would re-energize them, but no dice.
