Got a great price on a used pair and just got them last Thurs. Haven't compared them to the 400SE yet.. but goddamn these are incredible so far!

No contest. Classic Hifimans were awsome!

At $300-$400 used market prices, they are a no brainer upgrade. The modern cans be driven by a phone/dap would be an advantage. Dunno how something like these HE500 match up against say, a Sundara
Better bass on the 500, with the classic Hifiman bass heft (Hifiman doesn't put out hefty bass anymore), but it may be too warm sounding for people. Sundara is clearer sounding, but the timbre may not come off as great at the 500. Also, Sundara can get shouty on the upper-mids on certain tracks. I have the HE-6 and it's a step up since it doesn't sound so thick like the 500. Much clearer sounding with one of the best Hifiman imaging. Mind you that this imaging probably depends on the right setup, given I'm seeing various opinions on Hifiman models. Some headphone setups you can make better distinctions among the Hifiman models.

I can confirm that with my Hifiman HE 400i 2020 it sounds horrible on my Fiio K3 @ 120mW into 32 ohm, but with my Fiio K5 Pro it sounds glorious @ 1.5W into 32ohm. So the modern Hifiman's still needs a lot of juice to be properly drived😅😅

Ha! This is why I don't see myself ever giving up the Magni Heresy. 2.3w of power into 33 ohm SINGLE ENDED! is no joke, all for $99

Hifi will still have CD quality flacs and most of the most of the music on Tidal is CD quality, only a small percentage is "Masters Quality"
So, after the latest controversy further exposed MQA as a fraudulent scam, they are moving MQA files to a more expensive service offering?!

Lol. It seems they are "doubling down," but we all know their hand is garbage. :o2smile:

Sup guys. So after listening for a few days to my Sennheiser HD 560s and my Hifiman HE 400i 2020 version, I might have to return my Sennies😅😅 The Hifiman's blow it out of the park😬😎
I’m gonna have to try/buy a 400i 2020 one of these days :) The 400i 2016 I have was severely rolled off on the bass at stock configuration; I had to apply a few mods to get it to sound good to my ears.

Found this cool. I wish more repairmen like this were in my area. 400SE Driver Trace Repair

On a sort of related note, I bought a pair of HE-560 V1s shipped from the US to Canada, and upon arrival both drivers were dead :frowning2: I plugged it to various systems in my home hoping that some current would re-energize them, but no dice.
