I have the Edition X V2, and am wondering what benefits I would realize if I upgraded to the HE1000se?

Can anyone with experience with both describe the differences?

TIA
Better soundstage, better separation, more resolutive, higher quality bass and more bass extension.

Plus it's also much more comfortable... and expensive!

I am selling mines for a bit less. Because they have little scratches on the right part (like a dumb I did not buy a headphones support and was used to put it on my amp, like my other less expensive headphones. The problem is the paint is taking scratches sooo easily. I am sorry for that, it is only esthetics, working great and still 6 months of warranty. But I am in Europe)

Higher quality bass? More layered, but given enough amp power any HE-6 SE outdoes any HEK with rise time/bass impact - that is however the only thing that's better - besides the cost.

Those sound like nice improvements.

I'll be looking to purchase used, maybe $1,200-$1,400.

Do you think it's worth the upgrade?
The HEK SE is a legitimate member of the really good->great headphone club. But it will show issues with the chain. It's a real classical/great recording type can. If you want rock/pop/EDM the Organic or HEK Stealth might suit better.

I have bought many used HFM, but at the price of the SE, a few hundred off - losing the warranty, and chances of issues.... I would not do it, unless it was a well trusted source, and the money really matters.

Also the XS mentioned - has a rock n roll EQ but its got some real brightness issues IMO, beyond just FR solved by a PEQ, it has CSD issues (ringing) which some do not like.

Yes, Higher quality bass. I'm comparing HE1000SE with Edition XS, not with HE-6 SE.

And I'm agree with you. HE-6 SE has better slam and bass, and Organic or HEK Stealth are better for rock/pop/EDM than SE.

I currently have a HE6SEV2 (very modified..) and a HE1000 Stealth with ZMF pads.

He6SEV2 are the best deal of all Hifiman (if have a powerful amp)

I listen to mostly jazz with a Woo WA22. I also have a Jotenheim 2 as a backup.

Actually, you are correct about buying used. I think I may be better off getting a new/open box with a warranty.

I haven't had a problem with my Edition X, but am nervous with all the negative comments.
I like them, but will upgrade to the 1000SE if the difference is worth it.

I've owned 11 HFM's. I only own the HE-6 SE and 500 now. I'd like a HEK SE, but not spending that much at this point.

The XS has a bigger stage, than the 6 SE/SE v2 but otherwise its a bit too rough for me.

I had a HEX v2 for about 5 years. The SE is a much better can. A lot more def esp in the treble, and better bass slam. But as w/ all HFM's they both need PEQ - but in different places. I got rid of mine because I wasn't using it much even w/ PEQ and the pads and headband started shedding. Not many left, and the XS killed the resale, but its a much better/more listenable can than the XS - but the XS has the pop/rock tonality. If you like the HEX its more like the HEK v2/Stealth.

I wouldn't grab hekse for ultimate jazz execution ( mids ,and timbre are better on other totl/planar headphones)
Unless you find > a right < tube amp for them. But consider it may take time.

🙋🏽ps long time he1000se fan here :)

I tried out a pair of HE1000se headphones last June and loved them, but ended up having to return them because of a sudden and unexpected series of events that found me having to relocate to a different state, but now that I'm settled in to my new digs, and having gotten a small bonus, I was able to pick up a pair of refurbished HE1000se phones from HifiMan which should arrive this next Monday.

I spent the last 5 months moving, which means I haven't had any time to just sit down and listen to music, so I'm very excited to get my gear set up and plug in a new set of headphones. My new recliner arrives tomorrow (the cherry on top), so I'm just about ready to settle in as the winter weather is approaching : )
great to read you are finding some solid ground again! Yeah right, one has to sit comfortably and listen...
