I believe you hear it that way...I find, on my amps (Ray Samuels HR-2 and newly acquired MicroZOTL), mostly using Pono line out for source, I hear quite a difference between the 560 and the HEk. Don't have an LCD-3, maybe it is on the level of the HEk when using only $1000 amps and Daps as sources, could be....

So the audition of the microZOTL converted to a purchase.

Not an official purchase yet, but I suspect that's what'll happen, don't think I'm going to want to remove that nice box from my bedside. Have to get a review done on it one of these days...

Nice DAC.  Got my eyes on one..

It is a great DAC. I like it so much that I have one in each of my two systems. Their new M28 mono blocks are great too.

Burning mine in via my Violectric V281 and PS Audio DirectStream DAC.
Any idea on burn-in time on these?

Beta testers seemed to indicate about 130 hours, with one saying things were still improving at 200 hours.

0.0 hours on both beta and production units. They didn't get any more awesome with me over time or with burn in.

I did learn to better appreciate what they did well by going through lots of different music.

I think hifiman does state that they burn the HE1000s in for around 40 hours as is just for QC and to test for consistency. I personally didnt bother checking to see if burning in makes a difference or not but regardless I would think the first 40 hours would do at least a good bulk of the changes that may occur.

Like purrin said... just enjoy em... who cares really

I noticed a small increase, in positional resolution and soundstage, when I compared my as-received HE1000 beta to after 130 hours of use:

Comparison of HE1000 Beta to Sennheiser HD 800 and Grado PS1000 - 1st place (blue, 3), 2nd (red, 2), 3rd (yellow, 1) in 3-way compare on 10 acoustic features.

Same comparison after 130 hours of use on HE1000 (right column of explanation omitted).

Have about 130 hours on mine. Bouncing between my GS-X mkII and HPA-21. Using balanced from my DAC2se on the GS-X, and of course SE on the HPA-21. These are really great headphones indeed. I never thought that I would hear a sound stage that was wider and more precise than my HD800's. But, "hear" it is. These cans sound great out of both amps. With the HPA-21 having the edge on sound stage and instrument separation. Not 100% on the sound stage being really wider. I think the better separation of the HPA-21 gives me a sense of more space around my head. If I had to pick only one of the amps it would be the Bakoon, but would not have any problems loving them through the GS-X either. Very very close.
