Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

I just asked about the cable. It is made by HiFiMAN out of single crystal cooler and just single ended.

They said they did a lot of research on it and believe a customer will need to spend a lot of money to get something better. It is cloth covered kind of the old Denon and the connectors look a lot like the Oppo connectors.

What?! A $3000 dollar headphone that only runs single ended? That's enough to make me cancel my part in the beta test if that is true. While I am sure that it's a very nice single ended cable, all my amps sound much better via the Balanced output (HA-1, Ragnarok). Can HiFiman confirm that the HE1000 will be SE only?

We ALL know that Red is the Fastest Color, right?

So my Sennheiser HD 800s and HDVD 800s are the fastest HD 800s, right?

I'm pleased therefore to announce my discovery of the latest tweak to the HE-1000:

I did not say the headphones only do Single Ended. What I said is that the cable HiFiMAN will supply is a single ended cable. You can get a balanced aftermarket cable with no problem since they use a 2.5mm TRS mono connector at the cups.

The HD800 is similar too. You get only a single ended cable. But this HP is double the cost. Why can't they do what Audeze does and include both cable types or like Abyss does by including the adapters.

Yeah don't quite understand that - if the Audeze's come with both SE & Balanced I would figure a $3k headphone definately would. A bit disappointing but glad to know it can still run balanced, but that's another cost on top of an already very expensive headphone. Any way you could choose balanced as opposed to SE?

The HE1000 should be coming with 3 cables: a 1/8", 1/4", and 4-pin XLR cable, unless this is changed at the factory over the weekend.

Official pricing for the EF1000 amp is not set in stone yet.

Musicman59, sounds like they are giving you bad info at the HiFiMan booth!!! Glad to hear these will come with not just 1 but 3 cables! The 1/8" is a nice extra for me too as I may end up using these with a DAP if I can find one that powers them well enough.

Unfortunately I can only report what I was told when I asked at the booth. Sorry for the confusion guys.

I tried them with my AK240 at CanJam and had to max out the volume to marginally drive them.

Dang, oh well, kind of figured they would need more juice than a DAP could provide, luckily there's plenty of portable amps available too now, maybe the CDM from ALO Audio would be a good match.
