Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

How's the treble compared to your Stax? And mids.

Without doing a side by side A/B comparison is difficult but IMO they are very close. Maybe the SR-009 a tad more open but they are too close to determine without comparing side by side. The mids I think are a little more organic in the HE-1000 but again it is splitting hairs in my opinion.

Durability of the new ultra light nano driver is a question I have also. For example, in the higher end models of the Magnepan planar speaker line, the ribbon tweeter is also extraordinarily light and takes a long time to reach the floor when dropped.  But that ribbon tweeter is also delicate and can be damaged by a slight rush of air, e.g., when closing the lid of the packing box too fast, or running your hand too fast past the tweeter.  I've got the Magnepan Magneplanar 3.6 and know very well to be extra careful. Never had a problem though.

Sorry I didn’t get which one you mean. Is it the Abyss or the HE1000 that has better speed and punch?

Sorry I was not clear. IMO the HE-1000 are more open, faster and with more punch.

Quick question, where you using your Stax amp?

BTW, I'll be at the Stereo Exchange event tomorrow and will ask Fang about durability.

These gonna be available single ended or balanced only?

I should've mentioned that in my post. I'll edit it to mention that the HE-1000 abandons the screw-in coax plugs. Even though I've become quite adept in the pre-twisting ritual needed to get those just right, I won't miss them at all.

The HE-1000 uses a mono 2.5mm plug in each ear, so my OPPO cables work with it.

I did not have my stax rig with me that's why i was saying it is difficult to make a fair comparison without having them side byy side.

Wow, the price. Of course, not something I could ever dream of affording, but Fang must be REALLY confident about the HE1000, and going by initial impressions, I'm sure it's world class indeed.

It's the first HFM headphone that I could honestly say looks high end. The others had a DIY look to them, with matching inconsistencies and what have you.

And THANK GOD he's doing away from those screw in connectors. Those need to be killed with hell fire.

One can dream...

Wow just can't wait to listen to this after reading Jude's latest impressions. It's really gonna be a war for high end headphone this year, HE-1000, LCD-Z and new Sennheiser flagship (informed that it will be better than Orpheus).

Don't undrestand why so many are surprised by the price. Yes, they are expensive but the SR-009 with stregth of the Dollar versus the Yen are about the same price and the Abyss are $5,500.

Pretty sure they're surprised because it's a HUGE jump from HFM's most expensive headphone prior. You would be silly to think people wouldn't be shocked. Also, $3000 puts it in a range out of reach for 95% of Head-fiers, I'm assuming. It will literally be a headphone can only dream of, whereas other HFM headphones were somewhat in the realm of realistic for most people, with some frugality.

Not many people have your kind of funds.

Flagship products are usually out of the reach of 'normal' (as such) buyers. They're intended to target another market.

The sounds is exceptional and I have my impressions done and ready as part of my column but may post them here soon. They are the best headphone  I have heard and I miss them dearly and cant wait to do the formal review.
