this is a weird thread, full of debacle and ended with quietness... I guess people who cared already lost interest or as I heard getting the damn thing is not as easy nor rewarding as is the price asked.
I newer did ended up come to a conclusion whether the headphone is tuned to be similar to MDR R10 or not most people just said its a homage while early excerpt of what Fang said is leaning more to mocking than homage really, its also strong in bass, a character that MDR R10 infamously lacks?

Theres' this post about the HER10 that got completely ignored, https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hifiman-he-r10-planar-dynamic-quick-impressions.939994/ they have the seemingly same MDR R10 (from the defects) and R10D (from the wood grain) in the background as the cirb something guy that HFM stated as not a member of their staff in any way.

Well anyway that's just my observation after skimming through this thread to understand just what and why HE R10 make 0 noise these days other than the flurry of reviews coming in the last couple of pages that point us to the showcase page, this thread seems dead. are they that hard to get? Even the D ver? do they still make any buzz in Chinese thread? the link to erji. net seems quiet as well.

I kinda read this just for the fun of it, but MDR Z1R's thread was kinda funner in the end, more emotionally charged, more controversy, more drama.
This one feels more... artificially generated buzz that dies out.
I do see people are reading this thread still tho, 15 people other than me it seems?

The hifiman r10 headphones lacks design identity. Due to their blatant copy strategy.
The headphone itself seems poorly made/lacks the wood beauty compare to the wood work from ZMF and audio technica.
And the asking price for the planer version is a joke.
so adding all the above three u get a overpriced headphone with poor build quality and copy cat design.
That are so many turn offs without even talking about the sound.

I still don't know why hifiman would release a blatant copy of another headphone from a different company. They aren't a startup anymore, they're an established brand co-leading the planar game with Audeze.

I guess from their pov. Since they believe thier version of the r10 are superior to the original sony r10, thus justify their naming and design choice. As in our r10 are the better and modern r10.
They just dropped ball on the design and build quality part. Which made their r10 looks far cheaper than the sony one.

They explained why, it's an homage to the Sonys.

I don't know what's funnier... the idea that it's an actual homage, or that you believed it.

Well, it's definitely not a copy. There's way too much that is different.

Also, leave your snark out.

So if you don't think it's an homage, or a copy, what do you think it is?

It's clear to all reading that you can't even answer the question.

It's clear that you can't accept my answer or opinion, so I'm going to block you out of curtesy for everyone else.

Assuming 'all readers' think the same way you do is a little arrogant, don't you think?
