Hmm this isn't what they teased? - Oh not it is.

Also it looks like a uptuned Deva or downtuned Sundara with wooden cups & BT so probably Deva - going off specs.
I just noticed the cups...Not sure how i missed them haha.... yeah Sony.

The Sony R10 had a bio cellulose driver, I doubt Hifiman is producing that driver material so these headphones don’t really seem like a total copy in that sense, but certainly from a design aspect they appear highly influenced by the Sony’s.

Such a disappointment........are they gonna release a carbon copy of HD800 few years down the road to homage it?

2 variation
planer r10 goes for 5500 usd
dynamic r10 1400 usd
That price difference is.... insane. It's 4 times the cost of the "regular" dynamic version.

If the planar R10 is that good, why not call it an R20, or something? Or are they so desperate to hang on to that "R10" name?

I see a big difference. The HD800 was replaced by a model that is very similar. The R10 was really never replaced by Sony, as its subsequent "flagship" headphones are always found lacking one way or another.

Was there a reason Sony never went back to that design?

All one can think is, "the product is too expensive in today's market." But let's get real: a sign of the times is that, for better or worse (on balance, worse, IMHO), there are a lot of people with a LOT of money to spend on expensive toys. The Sony MDR-R10 was a heckuva nice expensive toy.

That still doesn't excuse the fact Hifiman asking 1400/5500 usd for a headphone that is ripping of the design element from other flagship headphones. Discontinued or not.
At this point why keep their design team at all. Hifiman might aswell name their next headphone HE-Qualia 010.

Nah. The next-in-line is probably a Denon or an AKG. Probably the HE-D7000, or something.

I find this design and pricing incredibly disappointing. I wonder if HFM are proud of themselves for this.

Looks like a Sony MDR-R10, those wooden cups! and I think that is exactly the point they are trying to make. So it is fair to assume they will cost at least more than 1500 USD
So I'm out :)
