HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone

They seem to pair extremely well with my system. I am digging back into the HE-6 thread now, obviously, and have read on numerous posts/reviews that the OG HE-6 has more bass slam/content. I am listening to 'Drums of the World: Globally influenced percussion' and some tracks are bordering on uncomfortable levels of bass impact and slam. Feels & sounds like I am sitting next to the drummer. The diaphragm is visibly moving a fair bit - more than this would be too much. Amazingly accurate/ruthlessly aggressive planars!
Yeah the OG HE6 slams with more weight, but the bass of the Susvara and HE6SE are about the same. I recommend to give my passport mod a try. The bass will roll off at 25Hz but you get more movement of the diaphragm.

BTW, depending on your listening levels, if it is really loud with a lot off bass, don't remove the HE6 from your head before turning the volume down, one observe the moving diaphragm at lowest possible volume. They can get stuck to the magnets... My horror story and first bassport post: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hifiman-he6-se.886229/post-16367236

I'm not cool enough to have a pair of OG HE-6's but I just picked up a set of very well priced HE-6SE's. Colour me impressed! I have some honeycomb grills and Dekoni fenestrated sheepskin pads incoming.

Where did you order honeycomb grills, I was not aware of it.

I don't remember the last time I posted in this thread, but I just want to drop this little nugget: The RAAL HSA-1b is amazing with the HE-6, especially when driven from the ribbon output with an adapter cable. That is all.

Good finding, but RAAL is very expensive amp.

HE-6 owners, is this a little strange?

Yup. Looks like that might be a 6 screw with a 4 screw plate on top.
yeah I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they had some 4 screw plates left when they switched over to produce the 6-screw.

Hooked my early HE-6 (4-screw) to my AES-25 Signature with new stock Golden Lion tubes. They are an amazing headphone.

I just put a matched pair of Gold Lions KT66 in my Musical paradise Integrated vacuum tube amp. I use that mostly for my 2 channel system, but I can just as easily walk across the room and plug my headphones in. I bet it sure sounds nice.

You should give that a shot. I remember considering that one a while back. Love my DAC.

Looks like someone might have opened it up and messed up putting the driver back in. The driver is just rotated, it is a 4 screw still, just the center bar is not perpendicular to the cable

Hard to tell from that pic. If @Roses54 provided a closer pic of the driver, then one could distinguish a 4-screw vs. a 6-screw by the mesh used there. The 4-screw mesh is a little bit more fine than the 6-screw mesh.
