What about the comfort? 
That's about my only complaint about the HE-500, the weight. Wonder if they'll make that new headband available for the older models?

No they won't.  
already officially stated by HiFiMan, the new headband and hardware parts were engineered for the new HE-560 weight and cups, etc.

Comfort is great - they aren't too heavy and the headband is soft, and the pads are not too firm and not too soft.

When one of you testers of the 560 have time, would you try out the new pads with the 500 and see if you hear any difference... not feel different, but if the sound improves for the better.
 
One other question... have any tried the Schiit Vali driving the 560? I'm using the Vali with my 500's and man, do they sing! The best I've heard out of my 500's... the best HP combo I've heard. Period.

I posted this somewhere in the general thread, but the tl;dr is that the new pads on HE500 has a similar effect as the latest Jergpads, just more spacious but a tad brighter.

I find the Fostex TH900 very comfortable but interestingly as the 560's are heavier, they are more comfortable and I notice them less on my head.

I do have a pretty comprehensive amateur review up though, not too many comparisons with other flagships (I'm poor), but it should contain enough technical detail to sate some people.
