HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions

Yeah i found out the hard way.
So how could this be a software defect with MQA when many dacs and DAPS can unfold MQA without the popping?
i find it almost acceptable, but a very strange design choice on HiBy's part: it's my first device (DAP or DAC, all full MQA decoders) that does that. Maybe it will disappear once the R6 2020 is officially MQA certified (https://www.mqa.co.uk/partners/hiby), but i doubt it given the statement on other HiBy DAPs.

I returned it and bought a Ibasso dx300 which doesnt have that problem. By the way, the R6 2020 sounded very good and I was impressed by its overall design but I can't handle this pop before every MQA track.

What really needs to happen is MQA to go away.

Has anyone gone from an R6 Pro to an R6 2020 with full sized cans, like Focal Utopias? Wondering if there's any SQ improvement worth the upgrade. More than anything else, and it's nano-trivial, I prefer HP sockets on the bottom of a DAP, as it puts less stress on thick cable when I'm holding it upright.

I can give you my guesstimate . I have an R6 pro and tried the 2020 R6 with a Dan Clark Aeon RT Closed and went to medium gain on R6 and it did not seem as powerful as the R6 Pro , never tried high gain on 2020 R6 though.
The Dan Clark’s are quite difficult to drive

Thanks -- any noticeable difference in sound between the two DAPs? Detail, soundstage?

Detail is improved on R6 2020 . I feel dynamics are better on R6 Pro . If you are using Tidal a lot like I do , you will get a lot of pop noises at the beginning of MQA tracks . If you have playlists like I do which mix MQA and regular 16/44 , expect to hear pops when you get to the MQA track .
