Sorry, I don't have the old R5. Alex (@twister6 ) reviewed that on our website. Expect comparisons with DX160, R6 2020, R6 Pro, M11, etc from me. I'll probably throw in comparisons with DX240 and PAW6000 too just to show how it competes with DAPs more than twice its price. :D
I am looking for DX160 backup as its battery is getting worse and worse, looking forward to your comparison.

OK… I do not need a new DAP, I do not need a new DAP…. OK, so if I get a new DAP… I currently have the R6 Pro… I have been thinking about getting the R6 2020. I really would like to have the more modern Android 9 of the R6 2020, but reading the early impressions I am impressed by some of the updates on the R5 gen2 (though not the Android version)… Anyone have any thoughts why I should consider the R5 gen2 over the R6 2020?

Of course, we might be offered an “R6 2022” sometime this year. Not saying we will, but I think that the R6 -> R6 Pro -> R6 2020 all followed a 2 year cadence…

Well for me the R5 sounded great, a 4.7" nearly all front screen is about ideal and I expect I can stick with internal ESS AMP so will benefit from the long battery life. I have favourite balanced cables in 2.5mm and 4.4mm so I can use without adapters. Its only £310!

Thanks for your impressions on these. Was looking for a review. This discrete class A amp is really interesting.
Same, interested to hear thoughts on how it drives iems that benefit from good amplification, such as heart mirror.

Any1 can tell something about streamings apps on R5 Gen2? Is it (Spotify, Apple Music, maybe Deezer or Tidal) usable? The specification of R5 Gen2 is very low - Snapdragon 425, only 2GB RAM...
I had the original R5 and all the streaming apps worked fine and bit perfect and full MQA support.

My R5g2 is already on plane today from China to UK so if customs don't play silly buggers with it I might even get it this week 🙂

Well, Tidal, Amazon HD and Spotify as not used the others.

Generally, the newer Android OS versions require 2GB of RAM to run adequately. More needed if running multiple apps.

For normal listening and streaming (maybe a single streaming app), the 2GB should be adequate. Nowhere near smartphone speeds but still useable.

How fast is it?
Fairly fast. No irritating lag for now. Way better than DX160 in that regard.

I've been using Apple Music and Spotify Music with it for the past few days and works flawlessly. Not laggy at all.
