Question for the experts. Is it possible to output a digital signal to an outboard DAC via the USB-C port? I had assumed it was possible and bought a USB-C to USB-B plug to plug into my Schiit Bifrost but haven't been able to get any sound. Am I missing something in settings for is this not possible?

According to the manual it says you can use the R3 pro as a digital source via either coax or usb
In the settings the USB has options on it to pick how it presents as ... maybe needs to be set as a source rather than storage / DAC

That isn't exactly what I want to do though. I don't want to pull from another source, I want the R3 to be the source as a transport. I've seen the part about digital Coax out, but that's for feeding something like a Mojo that has that input. I just want to output the USB signal to a USB DAC.

There should be nothing wrong with what you're trying to do. Have you
1. Selected USB as the input on the Bifrost?
2. Removed all connections to all jacks other than the USB port on the R3?
3. Is the R3 playing music itself?

Joe, I've tried all those things. Does USB mode matter?
I’m using my R3 all the time as Transport for the Mojo, and I am using the micro-USB input on the Mojo. Have used FIIO cable and the Shanling L2

No. Can you show me the cables you're using? I just realized that the Bifrost has a large B port (printer port) for input and am not quite familiar with any cable that converts from type-C to a large B.

Best bet (always works but a bit clunky) is a type-C OTG adapter cable coupled with a regular printer cable.

This is the cable, simple $6 amazon one. I assumed this will work but I guess I'm going to have to grab a cheap USB-C OTG cable as well.

So still having issues connecting to my DAC. I bought a USB-C OTG cable connected to an Audioquest USB cable (coincidentally my only fairly nice audio cable) and still no luck getting anything from the R3 to my DAC.

Am I missing something obvious?

So far, am loving my R3 Pro, but I'm paranoid about dropping / damaging it.

Just curious if any of you have this case..? If so, would appreciate some feedback before I order it.

Here's the product link:

I wouldn't pay $30 for it, ... but as it's on sale I might treat myself :)

That case looks like a nice option in between the full leather case and the simple plastic case. Although to be honest, I prefer the simple case in most cases because I feel like the leather case forces my finger to skip songs when I am trying to hit the play/pause button or screen power button. Not a show stopper, but definitely an inconvenience sometimes.

I can imagine the buttons being a bit more fiddly with a thicker case around it.

I ordered the red one, ... will post my thoughts when it's arrived!

Can someone post the USB cable they are using to output to an external DAC? Trying to figure this out without cycling through an unnecessary amount of cables.

Can anyone do me a favor and show which cables they are using to connect their R3 to a USB DAC? Really would like to get this working with my desktop setup. Thanks!
