Hi folks,

Shopping around for a new DAP and am looking at the FIIO X5-II. I have however noticed that Sony is now also offering hi res audio in its latest tablets. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with using a tablet as a hi-res audio device. Not the Sony per se, and possibly in combination with an external portable amp. Would a tablet be a viable alternative or is a dedicated DAP still the way to go?

More info on the tablet: http://www.whathifi.com/sony/xperia-z4-tablet/review

Thanks

Fiio provides good specs for their DAPs. We know what they can do using those specs. Have you found similar detailed audio specs for the Sony tablet? If not, I wouldn't bet on it being as good.

However, you could always go with an Android tablet that has USB audio out and them an external DAC/amp if you really want a tablet.

No not really. Reviews about the earlier Z3 line were quite favourable though. I'm trying to figure out whether the quality will be acceptable enough for me to forego a separate player + lower specked tablet. I'll wait for some more reviews before I make up my mind. Thanks for your input Cel4145
