Hi, this would be my first post here at Head-fi. The first of many I presume.

Anyways, I came here so that I might ask you guys for some serious headphone advice.

I've had my eyes set on the Shure E2c headphones for a while now. I am a former owner of the Sony EX70s. Former because they shorted out and I am now headphoneless and seeking an even better solution.

My favorite thing about the sony's were the fact that they were so comfortable and easy to wear. Now I'm looking for something with similar ease and comfort, with superior sound and isolation.

I HAD my eyes set on the Shure E2c headphones, until today when I posted this on the Gaming-Age Off Topic forums.

http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=48652

Some of the posts in this thread enligtened me to a few things. Namely Etymotic's and various online stores which sell these headphones MUCH cheaper than the price displayed on each headphones manufacturers website.

Now I would like to know how these two headsets:

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...9&loc=101&sp=1 Etymotic ER6-I

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...0&loc=101&sp=1 Etymotic ER6-P

And this

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.as...90132508&loc=0
Shure E2c

How do these headphones compare with eachother in terms of sound quality, comfort, and isolation?

I would also like to know, is buy.com a trustworthy online store? Are those prices for real? Some things I see there are $100 less than prices you see at the makers websites.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you, I plan to order either tonight or tomarrow.

I apologize if this is a very noobish question. However I am very close to making a purchase and need this information before I checkout.

What is generally accepted as the best model of Etymotic 6?

I'm speaking in terms of comfort, sound quality, sound isolation, and build quality.

Price isn't so much of an issue for me as long as they're under $150 on this website.

I know there are a lot of different Etymotic 6 models but I don't know what's the best of the bunch. It would be a great help if someone could guide me in the right direction.

the er6i's aren't as bright and have more bass than the er6's. they were designed for the ipod and should be your choice, imo. I have the er6i's and they are detailed and a little bright. Also, without EQ or amp I find them very thin. If I bump up the bass +5db I find them enjoyable and worth purchasing. In my opinion, though, if I can't eq up the bass, I don't enjoy them. I've owned the e2c's and they are just the opposite. More bass and rolled off highs. Lots of people like the e2c's, and I thought they were decent when I had them, but I think the er6i's are superior headphones.

edit: they will all isolate about the same; the ety's might isolate a little more. They all are fairly uncomfortable to begin with, but they will grow on you.

Welcome, and sorry about you wallet.

If you're not careful, in 6 months you might end up with a pair of UE 10 Pro's.

No lie! Man - I've BARELY escaped that fate so far. Really it's only by the phantom hope of the E4C and/or Super Fi coming in close enough to avoid it (UE-10/Sensa).

Good luck - I loved my E2C set for the week I had them. Then I got a smokin' deal on the E3C and haven't looked back. Just ahead - more money... it's a good thing I'm not given to depression....
