I was told to come here before I bought any headphones and was wanting some advice. Basically, Im just looking for some good headphones to wear when Im working at my job listening to music. Im self employed so its all good. I just want something that has good sound quality and is comfortable over my head.

I was told these were pretty good (Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones) but wanted to know what you guys thought.

If you have a budget of 150.00 buy the Shure SRH840. They are the most dynamic and effortless cans I own. Plays everything well you wont be disappointed.

I spend a lot of time working on the computer from my home office so the desktop is where I do most of my 'phoning. If you simply want music as a background and aren't into audiophilia, then the HD555 should do fine. I've never heard it, but I've read good things about it.

However, if you're serious about your music, then you may want to read up on other headphone threads. Look for posts that report on synergy between cans and various genre to get an idea of what might work best for your tastes in music.

Once you zero in on the 'phone, then begin looking for an amp that works well with it. Again, you'll find many threads that speak to your needs.

'Phoning is a journey, as someone in Head-Fi has said, and once you take the first step, you're on an adventure that never ends.

The Shures are great headphones. One quick tip - if you're going to be working at a desk near other people, open headphones like the Sennheisers you suggested are probably not a great idea, because they leak a lot of sound and everyone around you will be able to hear your music.

Shure 840 are good headphones(i own them),with very good sound quality,but if there are not other people around you and there is also no noise where you work,then get the hd 595,they are more comfortable.

They are a bit more expensive than hd 555,but have better sound quality in my opinion,and are the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried.

If you have not big ears,get the shure 840 though,they are very nice.

I found the HD595 to be bland and boring, the AD700 is a more enjoyable phone with more of a fast and in your face thing going on. The HD595 seems to be laid back and kinda boring.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the responses. It was much more than I expected. I work in a bar but Im not a bartender and it doesnt matter if I hear people or not. Thanks for all the tips guys!
