I have the "Killer 1535" and find it is not giving me a consistent connection with bluetooth.

I also lost bluetooth after a windows update.

Not sure where the blame lies, but I am wondering if there is a better solution.

I also think I get a worse audio signal from the Killer card than comes from my Nexus 6p. The latter seems to have more bass and a cleaner signal.

I can't seem to figure out what the difference is between 4.1 and 4.2 and if either or both have Apt-X, and if that matters.

Anyone have any ideas about what the best bluetooth implementation is for a laptop, either a USB dongle or a pci card I can replace the killer 1535 wtih?

I have the same wireless card in my Alienware 17 R3, and I can confirm the Bluetooth problems. My Beats studio Wireless used to have very low volume (only listenable at 100% volume, and that could be a bit quiet at times), but I just stopped using them with my laptop. My suggestion to you is to look on google for driver updates as the Killer 1535 has a very checkered history overall, especially with my laptop. They have released several firmware updates because of this, and I am sure Bluetooth connectivity has come up in those updates. That is more than likely your cheapest option at the moment.
Many people were asking dell to send them a replacement wifi card, an Intel Wireless 8260. Not sure if that would solve your Bluetooth connectivity problems, but it seemed to solve many people's wifi connectivity problems. You may be able to use it, not sure if that works for all laptops though.
When did you buy the laptop, and what is it's model?
