Well, it's been a couple of years since I last visited this place. Seems like it's still the good 'ole Head-Fi. I mainly left the scene or hobby due to lack of money, but now I got a job and salary so here I am, aching to spend.
To the point of the thread.
I've been reading up on the current top of the line headphones. I know the R10's and all thoes are still in the top but currently, and probably for as long as I live, they will be out of my league. A pair of headphones that are in my league however and that I'm very interested in are the Grado GS1000. I recently read a review of them in a Swedish Hi-Fi magazine and they said it was the best they had ever heard. I haven't done any extensive reading on the GS1000's yet but I plan on doing so prior to purchase.
Speaking of purchase. Here is what my situation looks like:
In Sweden, the retail price for the Grado GS1000's is 10950SEK ($1550, yes, that's right) which is waaaay above the retail price in the US ($900-1000). So, instead of spending $1550 of my $2500 Hi-Fi budget on just headphones, why not buy them for $1000 from the US and use the other $1500 on a decent amplifier and source? However, I got to find a retailer in the US that sells the Grado's outside the US first. I've read somewhere that the Grado's aren't allowed to be sold outside the US with the exception of selected retailers. Is this true?
Which in turns leads me to this: Would it be possible to send cash to someone here on the board who could buy them and ship them here (saving me litterally hundreds of dollars) for a sum of money? I won't be sending off $1000 to anyone on a whim. I'd preferably hand it over to someone who already owns the GS1000's and is a respectable and honest member of Head-Fi. I know everyone here is good but one can never be too careful.
If this breaks some sort of moral code or agreement with any of Head-Fi's sponsors, members, etc., feel free to enlighten me.
Hope I can get some answers.
