Hello head-fi, I've noticed by searching through the forums that the Ultrasone HFI 780s are pretty good for rock and metal. I'm looking for a durable headphone that has full size closed earcups, a pricetag of <$150, and is able to be amped by a cheap fiio product (e7, e10, e11). Does the 780s fit these requirements well? Thanks in advance.

HFI-680 might be better for rock and metal, HFI-780 has really exaggerated bass which is ideal for electronica.

Hfi680, like pro650 are the most neutral headphone from Ultrasone, not really fun headphone with rock.

Hfi780 has a bass emphasized (not really exaggerated imo), but very good quality and never interfere with other frequencies.

Hfi580 has much more bass, more punchy, but lesser quality, better for EDM and co...

Do you have your heart set on Ultrasone, or are you willing to entertain other options? Also, I assume by your want of a cheap portable amp you'll mainly be using them through an iPod, Clip, or similar MP3 player?

I think that the 780 is one of the best deals for portable audio still.  You get great sound quality, the ease of modding them if you want to tweak them a bit afterwards, they drive nicely from sources, and though they aren't hugely comfortable, they are pretty good for portable headphones.
