#426 in the mail on Monday...I can barely sleep at night...(Todds such a nice guy, no?-happy to support him and Head-Fi...)
My questions to you guys is:
Is it worth while keeping the 80's?
Is there anything that the 80's will do different or better than HF-1, in any respect, that would warrant holding on to them? (other than thier sentimental value as my first real headphones)
They are in mint condition, so I guess I could sell them and either buy another set of cans for classical, or get me some ported C-pads!

Which reminds me...how do the HF-1's handle music that (IMO) requires detail/seperation and soundstage, i.e. calssical, jazz and ambient? I figure I may need a more laid back can for this, amybe the 580/595?

I would be glad to buy them if I had money.

I've almost pre-spent the paycheck I'l be receiving in 12 days though, so I don't think that's happening soon. ;_;

does the HF-1 really need an amp?
Is it not 32ohms like the prestige line?

One thing, I noticed about my HF-1s is, that I have to turn the knob on my amp a good deal further, than with the HD 595s, although the Senns have 50 ohms and the Grados 32 ohms resistance. That leads to the conclusion, that the Grados are nowhere nearly as effiecient as the Senns.

If you sell it then and dont want to add anymore money to get an amp, then you have these options:

Evilfire Cmoy or some random cmoy on ebay
Go Vibe
PA2V2

Yeah, it's 32ohms but it can still improve with an amp.

Low impedance does not mean that an amp won't benefit them. Typically the amp will be able to provide a lot more current than, for example, a portable player which will probably result in a nice improvement.

All of my headphones are relatively low impedance and yet all of them show benefit from being amped (to varying degrees, the 225s and 595s show the biggest improvement).

Ive heard other Grados (other than the rs-1/2) with an amp, and IMO, the amp didnt do much.
Will there be a noticable difference with the Pa2v2/HF-1 or should I just the money towards another headphone?
If the FH-1's can handle classical/jazz/ambient okay then ill go with the amp.
My sr-80's are terrible for classical...

I had a pa2v2. It adds more bass and tames the highs but the sound stage shrinks a bit(which you may or may not like). I have no experience with the other two amps, but they fall in your price range.

limited soundstage to begin with...how does an amp ruin aor diminish soundstage.
To be honest, i know nothing about amps...I thought they just provided more power. Never understood how they improved sound as well. if anyone knows where I can read a "beginners amp guide for idiots", itd be most appreciated.
