Hi everyone!

First of all, I'm french, so excuse my misspelling
smily_headphones1.gif

I came here, 'cause I heared that it was simply the best audio forum ever

So, for this Christmast, I'm actually hesitating between 3 headphones, and maybe more if you add moresome ^^

At that time, I'm with a Sony MDR-V500DJ. Well, sounds OK, but a bit old, and get broken severals times (I had to take glue in order to fix it :/). I want now, something better, something to really see the difference between FLAC and MP3 VBR

I want a sealed headphone, with low impendance (I don't know if you say that in English?), kind of resistance of the cans otherwise (<70 Ohms). I can afford up to 250-300$ (150-200€ as well).

I make some kind of search, and I found those:

-Sennheiser HD-25-II -> Maybe too flimsy (?) and not specially design (^^)

-Ultrasone DJ1 Pro -> Well, it seems to be pretty good, but I don't know if I could find it in France :/

-AKG 271 S -> Some say that it's too dynamics (?)

Is there any other good sealed cans, affordable, with low impendance, and providing a good sound (clear)? Else, wich of the 3 would you buy if you were me?

Thanks all!

Without a doubt, I would recommend for you the Denon AH-D2000. It fits right into your price range at $275.00. It is low impedance, only 25 ohms. Closed back. And will sound a lot better than the other headphones you listed. And it is one of the most comfortable headphones on the market, too!

The D2000 and D5000 are all around winners.

Welcome to Head-Fi, and sorry about your wallet!

Well, I'll see that, but, I only found it at 330€ (495$) in France

I was pretty sure that there were other models, I keep listening to your advice

Well, while writing those lines, I found it at 250€ (375$) in Germany...

It seems to be pretty good!

In fact, it's still a little bit to expensive, especially in Europe (250+20 shipping = 270€ = 400$). It's amazing the difference between Europe and North America :/

So, maybe it's worth it, but, you know, I've only a Audigy 4, no amp :]. Is there any thing a bit less expensive

?

Even thought they do have the AH-D200, I need to find a shop in Europe zone, or I will definetly pay taxes (+13.5% import, +19.6% France Taxes :/). I've really no chance :'(

For now, my best solution is Germany. I'll see if I can manage

EDIT: erf, I didn't see that: there are cable on both sides
redface.gif
. That could be problematic if I do some mixing with one can off :/, isn't it?

I'm not very familiar with the taxation thing, but wouldn't that be 33.1% which is about $89 in taxes, making the total $359 + whatever shipping would be? Doesn't that make it an option? I really could be off the mark here.

In each case, it's over budget for me

The only Denon that we have in France, is the DN-HP1000 @ 190€ (280 $ !). While, a AKG 271 S is 140€ ( about 200$).

I'm seeking some one in my family to pay the difference ^^

also check out www.pricejapan.com -- they often have better prices than audiocubes. i've ordered a few things from them. they'll also put a lower value on the shipping invoice, but i don't know a lot about ec tax rules.

the senn hd25-2 are nice closed headphones -- they get good feedback on the forum.

I calculate, and It's a bit less expensive with audiocubes

I hope you're right about those cans, 250€ out of the wallet (360$ ^^) (With Shipping, and taxes included)

You are still talking about the AH-D2000s right? The recommendation came from IpodPJ earlier in the thread. I have no experience with them. I was trying to help figure out the least expensive way. I'm pretty sure he would elaborate about them if you asked him.

He did sound real sure about their performance.

those sennheisers are anything but flimsy, probably one of the best designed headphones around, you cant break them (unless you really tried). they also dont need an amp, very efficient. the sound is good, however they do lack in soundstage. that being said i also have a pair of denon d2000's and am very happy with them, they dont sound bad out of a soundcard, but i think they can be greatly improved with an amp. which i am in the process of looking for one.

I was also wondering if that doesn't make any problem with warranty if I am buying those cans in a foreign country.

If there is any problem, I will pay shipping for sure :/

For the amp, I don't want to buy one, it's pretty expensive. My Audigy 4 can provide a correct sound I think, with good DACs. Anyway, the best source that I have is CD (FLAC), I don't have any SACD, and I'm not making music on my own xD. Maybe D2000 is too 'good' for me?

Or, I was wondering if it were better to choose cans like K271-S and a Headphone Amp OR choose cans like D2000 without Headphone Amp?

I can't pay for a D2000 AND a Headphone Amp, but a K271-S and a Headphone would be easier to afford...

EDIT: And what about the Ultrasone DJ1-Pro ? Knowing that I love Electro and House sound...

EDIT2: Well, I've read few reviews of the D2000, and finally I think this is not for me: Do not isolate at all, cable on both side, and price over budget ^^
